Abstract:

A sponge body of between 6"-12" long and square in transverse cross-section defining four 2" to 3" wide side surfaces is provided with an elongate handle, the inner end of which terminates approximately 1" to 2" short of the outer squared end of the sponge body which is formed with two perpendicular transverse notches providing a physical and visual guide for the sponge end to conform with moldings and to compressibly fit into tight spaces. The outer end of the handle terminates in a flared scraper blade. In a modified embodiment, the sponge end of the handle is formed with a brush element having bristles extending laterally beyond the plane of one side surface of the sponge.

Abstract:

A visored hat construction comprising an outwardly projecting substantially planar visor portion of predetermined substantial thickness formed generally in an open cell configuration. The thickness of the visor, the cell size and the angles of the cells in reference to the plane of the flat visor are correlated to substantially prevent penetration of direct sun rays through the visor to the eyes of the user. The visor and its associated hat band components for encircling the head of the user coact to provide sufficient structural integrity and strength to maintain the components in flat coplanar relationship during normal wear. The visored hat provides unobstructed lateral vision, minimal wind resistance and numerous other features. Additionally, a novel headband of sinusoidal configuration and formed of soft textured, relatively non-absorbent foam material is described with its attendant advantages of neither inducing or absorbing perspiration and providing large air ventilating openings between the headband and its spaced points of contact particularly around the user's forehead.

Abstract:

A stand up hand-held tool to penetrate soil for purposes of cultivation, weeding and the like. The tool comprises an elongate spear shaft, at least one end of which is pointed or otherwise formed to provide a leading edge for expeditious soil penetration. An elongate tubular handle grip, preferably extending about 2/5 the length of the shaft, is mounted on the shaft rod to provide a smooth manual hand grip surface to permit a user's hand to slidably grip the tool in a large variety of longitudinal positions along the lengthwise axis of the rod. The tool is specifically designed to permit a user in a standing position to manipulate the tool using an underhanded sliding grip with one hand on the smooth handle grip.

Abstract:

An anti-bird perching device which can be installed by draping over railings, water pipes, wire cables or the like, either as a permanent or temporary barrier or deterrent for keeping both small and large birds from landing or perching on the understructure to be protected is described. The device comprises two identical panels made of a wire open rectangular grid fencing which said panels are hingedly attached to one another at spaced horizontal points, and wherein the wire material above the hinge points define two parallel rows of crisscrossing upwardly projecting wire prongs or spikes defining a surface which deters birds from landing or perching thereon. The hinged attachment permits the two-wire panel units to be pulled apart for installation or collapsed tightly together for compact shipping and storage applications. A method of installing multiple barrier units along a span of electric cable, telephone wire or water pipes and the like is also disclosed.
