Abstract:

A joint image compression system () and method () compress a target image and a reference image under a selected transform to produce a compressed difference image. The joint image compression system includes a computer readable media () and a computer program () stored on the computer readable media. The computer program includes instructions that implement selecting () a transform from among a plurality of transforms that includes a subset determined projective (SDP) transform, where the selected transform minimizes a cumulative mapping error (CME) for corresponding feature points in each of a target image () and a reference image (). The instructions further implement applying () the selected transform to one of the target image and the reference image; forming () a difference image under the selected transform and compressing () the difference image to produce a compressed difference image.

A substantially colorless dilactone chromogenic material having the structural formula ##SPC1## And ##SPC2## Wherein R represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group, an acyl group or an aroyl group; and X represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group or a nitro group. The dilactone compounds are produced from precursor compounds that are formed by reacting pyromellitic dianhydride with a resorcinol having at least the fourth or the sixth position unsubstituted, in the presence of a dehydrating agent to form xanthyl derivatives of isophthalic and terephthalic acid. These precursors are then further reacted to form the dilactones. The dilactones are used in pressure-sensitive copy systems comprising a support bearing microcapsules containing the dilactones, alone, or in combination with other chromogenic materials.

Abstract:

Pressure-rupturable, oil-containing microcapsules are produced by admixing a water-immiscible, oily material containing an oil-soluble, non-polymeric polyfunctional isocyanate cross-linking agent, and an aqueous solution of a polymeric emulsifying agent in the form of a water-soluble polymer containing recurring --NH. sub. 2 or. dbd. NH groups or a water-soluble natural gum containing recurring hydroxy groups. An oil-in-water emulsion is formed containing the isocyanate dispersed in the form of microscopic emulsion droplets in the aqueous continuous phase containing the emulsifying agent, and a solid capsule wall is formed by the cross-linking of the emulsifying agent by the isocyanate. Emulsions utilizing the natural polymeric emulsifying agents preferably contain a viscosity lowering agent in the form of a urea-formaldehyde or alkali metal periodate in order to obtain a higher solids coat weight while at an efficient coating viscosity.

Abstract:

An illustrative data storage system captures snapshots of a data structure based on snapshot creation schedules and sets retention periods for the snapshots based on snapshot retention schedules. The data storage system eradicates snapshots based on expirations of the retention periods. In certain examples, the data storage system determines a rule to use to capture a snapshot based on a state of snapshots within one or more lookback periods and/or based on a set of rules each defining a snapshot capture schedule and a snapshot retention schedule.
