Abstract:

Systems, including methods, apparatus, and algorithms, for spectrally imaging a two-dimensional array of samples are disclosed. In one such system, a method of sample analysis includes directing light from a two-dimensional array of examination sites onto a detection area such that dispersed light of known spectral composition from each site falls on the detection area. The method further includes assigning a corresponding two-dimensional array of regions of the detection area for detecting spectra from the examination sites based, at least in part, on the known spectral composition. The method also includes placing samples into the two dimensional array of examination sites and obtaining spectral data for each sample based on the detection area.

Abstract:

Embodiments of the invention disclose a mobile device, such as a mobile phone, that is capable of causing an alarm to be played to a user, to prevent a loss thereof. Advantageously, the mobile device also moves to a locked state in anticipation of being lost, thereby to prevent unauthorized use thereof. In a further embodiment, an accessory device is provided. The accessory device can be secured to an article of value that does not natively have radio capability. The accessory device is able to send a control signal to a tag carried on a person of a user, which control signal causes the tag to sound an alarm to notify the user of a potential loss of the article of value.

Abstract:

Certain substances (e.g., large molecules) that ordinarily cannot traverse the cell membrane of cells can be introduced into cells by applying an alternating electric field to the cell for a period of time, wherein the frequency of the alternating electric field is selected so that application of the alternating electric field increases permeability of the cell membrane. Once the permeability of the cell membrane has been increased, the substance is able to cross the cell membrane. This approach is particularly useful in the context of cancer cells (e.g., glioblastoma).
