Embodiments of a device, a method, and a system for wireless local area network (WLAN) sensing are disclosed. In an embodiment, the device for WLAN sensing includes a wireless network interface device implemented on one or more integrated circuits (ICs), where the wireless network interface device is configured to receive a sounding Physical Layer (PHY) Protocol Data Unit (PPDU) that includes preamble training fields, and detect environmental changes using managed sensing measurements obtained from the preamble training fields included in the sounding PPDU.

In an 802.11az wireless system, a first station device transmits an NDP PPDU data unit in accordance with a range measurement packet exchange by constructing the NDP PPDU data unit to include an uplink (UL) length field element or a legacy signal length (LLEN) field element derived from a specified number of symbols (N) and number of repetitions (N) for the NDP PPDU data unit, and then sending the NDP PPDU data unit to a second STA device, where the values of the UL-length and LLEN field elements are computed as UL-Length=LLEN=10+y+6*Σ((N(i)+1)*N(i)), where y=0 for NTB I2R/R2I NDP and TB R2I NDP PPDUs, and where y=3 for TB-I2R NDP PPDUs.

A first client station receives from an access point an indication of whether angular information is to be included in feedback information in a range measurement session. The first client station transmits a null data packet (NDP) as part of an uplink multi-user (MU) PHY transmission that also includes simultaneous transmissions by one or more second client stations of one or more other respective NDPs to the access point as part of the range measurement session. The first client station receives a downlink physical layer (PHY) data unit from the access point that includes respective downlink feedback frames for the first client station and the one or more second client stations. When angular information is to be included in the feedback, a downlink feedback frame for the first client station includes angular information.

A first communication device determines which one or more types of feedback information, from among a plurality of types of feedback information associated with a range measurement exchange session, a second communication device is to provide to the first communication device in a feedback packet transmitted as part of the range measurement exchange session. Abstract:

A WLAN Access Point (AP) includes a MAC processor and a PHY processor. The MAC processor is configured to generate a trigger frame including user information fields destined to respective STAs, and a padding field including one or more padding bits, to determine a number of padding bits that, after the trigger frame including the padding bats being encoded for transmission, satisfy a processing-time constraint imposed by the STAs, and to insert the determined number of padding bits in the padding field. The PHY processor is configured to generate a packet from the trigger frame, including encoding the trigger frame in accordance with an ECC, into one or more code words whose length depends on a number of padding bits in the padding field, to generate multiple modulated symbols from the one or more code words of the packet, and to transmit the modulated symbols to the STAs.

A communication device determines an identifier of a wireless network with which the communication device is not associated. While the communication device is not associated with the wireless network, the communication device participates in a ranging procedure with an access point (AP) of the wireless network. The ranging procedure is for estimating a distance between the communication device and the AP based on measuring times of flight of transmissions between the communication device and the AP. Participating in the ranging procedure includes: the communication device transmitting a packet to the AP as part of the ranging procedure. The packet includes a PHY preamble, and the PHY preamble includes a signal field. The signal field includes a wireless network identifier subfield set to the identifier of the wireless network.
