Abstract:

Apparatus and methods for securely monitoring the sales transactions in bulk vending machines are disclosed, the apparatus operable with at least one bulk vending machine having a coin mechanism that conventionally includes a coin plate, a selectively rotatable handle having a shaft extending radially therefrom, and a coin shuttle. The apparatus of this invention includes a lobe bearing cam mountable at the shaft and an adapter/sensor having first and second switches and an output interface mounted thereon, the switches oriented relative to one another so that the maximum amount of normal backlash (reverse rotation) of the coin plate during vending is accommodated (is less than the angular spread between the switches). The apparatus further includes a microprocessor connectable with the switches through the output interface for counting and recording sales indicated by activation of both of the switches in order, and circuitry for identifying occurrences of apparatus tampering or fault.

Abstract:

An apparatus for securely monitoring the sales transactions in bulk vending machines, said apparatus comprising at least one bulk vending machine having a coin mechanism. The coin mechanism includes a coin plate; a selectively rotatable shaft extending radially therefrom; a coin shuttle, a cam-bearing lobe and a coin mechanism adapter plate co-axially and collectively located around the selectively rotatable shaft; and a first switch and a second switch. The first and second switches are fixedly mounted and oriented on the coin mechanism adapter plate so that the maximum amount of backlash in the coin mechanism is less than the angular spread of the switches. The coin mechanism further includes a microprocessor having a sales counter; and means for communicatingly connecting the first and second switches to said microprocessor, whereby the microprocessor will advance the sales counter one numeric count and record a single vend only after the cam-borne lobe contacts and completely closes both first and second switches, when it is rotated as a result of a coin deposited in the coin mechanism.

Abstract:

The invention provides an event filter including a filter input configured to receive a plurality of events provided by at least one mobile computing device. The filter passes events from the event filter input to a filter output in accordance with a configuration signal provided by a client system. An event counter is configured to provide a count of the events passed by the event filter. A message unit includes an input for receiving the count provided by the event counter and an input for receiving alerts provided by the client system. The message unit stores the alerts and returns the stored alerts to the client system whenever the count provided by the event counter reaches the count provided by the client system.

Abstract:

A portable grasping apparatus comprises a clamp and an elongated clamp or clip movably interconnected in between by means of a plurality of pivoting mechanisms. The clamp secures the apparatus to a surface, such as a portable computer, without permanently being mounted to the surface. The clamp can accommodate the varying thicknesses of portable computers of all sizes. The clip holds large shape materials such as documents, paper and the like. The apparatus serves the purpose of holding documents either to the left or right side of a user of portable computers while reading or transcribing documents during travel. In a preferred embodiment, the rotation of the clip to either side of the user is by means of a rivet as a first pivoting mechanism. The apparatus may also be folded into a compact form for storage by means of a hinge as a second pivoting mechanism. The same hinge may be used to adjust the view angle of the document.

A computer-implemented technique can include obtaining a vector-based language model associating elements of an unlabeled corpus that have similar meanings, training a machine-learning classifier using the vector-based language model and a labeled corpus of text that has been annotated as having a particular level of abusiveness, obtaining a text, determining a prediction for the text using the machine-learning classifier, the prediction being indicative of a level of abusiveness of the text, and based on the level of abusiveness of the text, selectively outputting a recommended action with respect to the text.
