Abstract:
Systems and methods for connecting a mobile device to an alternate wireless network are disclosed. The method includes determining alternate wireless networks available to access by the mobile device, ordering the available alternate wireless networks by signal strength, connecting the mobile device to the alternate wireless network with a highest signal strength, measuring a quality of the connected alternate wireless network and, when the quality of the connected alternate wireless network is above a predetermined threshold, operating the mobile device over the connected alternate wireless network.

Abstract:
Methods and systems are disclosed to enable users of mobile devices to have an easy out of the box experience. In some examples, during the initial powering on of a mobile device, subsequent powering on of the mobile device, or at user direction, the device queries a user about connecting to an alternate wireless access network supported by the mobile device and upon receiving an indication from the user of the mobile device to proceed with the connection to the alternate wireless access network, connects the mobile device to an alternate wireless access network.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A wireless connection between a mobile device and an IP-based wireless telecommunications network is established when the mobile device registers with a network controller (NC) through an access point (AP). When a geographical position is needed for the mobile device (e. g. , a 911 call), messages are exchanged between the NC and a serving mobile location center (SMLC), where the SMLC retrieves information from a database that is used to identify the geographic position of the mobile device. The database can store a variety of information related to mobile devices such as: last known position, IP address, MAC address, a mobile or subscriber identifier (such as an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI)), last CGI, etc. The geographical position is communicated back to the NC, which can then forward the position information to a switch for processing such as for 911 calls.
Maintenance Of Subscriber History For Service Support Applications In An Ip-Based Telecommunications System
A facility for maintaining a subscriber history pertaining to the use of a mobile device with an IP-based telecommunications service offered by a service provider. When a connection request is made by a mobile device to access an IP-based telecommunications service, one or more identifiers associated with the requesting mobile device and access point are provided in the request and stored by the facility. In some cases, the identifiers are stored even if the mobile device is unable to, or not authorized to, access the telecommunications service. Additional parameters associated with the request from the mobile device, such as a time stamp and details of a subsequent telecommunications session, are also associated with the stored request. The history of requests to access the IP-based telecommunications service from the mobile device are maintained by the facility and provided to a service support provider.
System And Method For Authorizing Access To A Uma Network Based On Access Point Identifier

International Classification:
H04L 12/56
US Classification:
3703952
Abstract:
A system and method are arranged to evaluate registration requests associated with a mobile subscriber (MS) in a fixed-mobile converged network. The fixed-mobile converged network consists of at least one fixed network topology (e.g., IP) and at least one mobile network topology (e.g., CDMA, TDMA, GSM, etc.). Registration request are received by the system from the MS. The registration request includes information identifying an access point (AP) where the MS obtained access to the fixed network. The identifying information is used to query a database to determine if the MS is authorized for access through the AP. The database can identify the AP in any number of ways, including but not limited to MAC address, IP address, and FQDN. The results form the database query are evaluated and the requested registration from the MS is either completed or rejected based on the access authorization associated with the AP.

What grates even more is the self-aggrandising alarmism, so that Cameron urged "Europe to wake up to what is happening in our countries" as if no one had noticed extremist Islamist terrorism until he pointed it out. More sinister, the choice of phrase is a chilling echo of phrases used by the neoconservative US journalist Christopher Caldwell, whose doom-mongering Islamophobic book described the Muslim enemy within, whose birth rates threaten to overwhelm the continent.
