Abstract:

A method and an associated system for monitoring and instantly identifying faults in a data communication cable are disclosed. A fault monitoring program learns a reference data traffic pattern communicated through the data communication cable by reading inputs from a sensor. The reference data traffic pattern is stored and is used for determining normalcy of data traffic through the data communication cable. The fault monitoring program monitors for a fault in a data traffic, and, if a fault is detected, activates a fault indicator sending out fault signals to notify users of the fault. If the fault is not recovered within a predefined recovery period, the fault monitoring program deactivates the fault indicator and shuts down a power source for later use of the data communication cable.

Abstract:

Component failures are reported using a radio-frequency identification tag associated with an electronic component of a computer system installed on a common communications bus and power bus among at least one other electronic component wherein failure of a component may cause disruption of the power bus, the communications bus, or both busses; a system-level diagnostic function within the computer system but external to the first electronic component receiving a diagnostic failure indication from the first electronic component, and responsive to receipt of the diagnostic failure indication, sending a latching signal to the first electronic component; and a latch controllable by the latching signal, the latch having at least two stable modes including an unlatched mode which prevents the tag from transmitting signals upon query by a radio-frequency identification reader, and a latched mode which enables the tag to transmit signals upon query by a radio-frequency identification reader.

Abstract:

Methods, services, devices, and programmable code are provided for moving computing processes without loss of service. Powered components supporting a computing infrastructure executing computing processes are monitored for thermal characteristics, each associated with at least one of the deployed components. A thermal characteristic rule set comprising a threshold is applied to the monitored characteristics, and in response to an association with a monitored characteristic correlating with the threshold, a computing process is moved from one powered component to another having a monitored thermal characteristics not correlated with the threshold, the moving in real-time and without causing an interruption of service to an end user using the moved process.

Abstract:

Embodiments described herein comprise a system and method for corroborative vehicle diagnostic. The corroborative vehicle diagnostic system allows a vehicle to detect a fault indicator experienced by a vehicle subsystem. The corroborative vehicle diagnostic system allows the vehicle to compare the fault indicator with similar and/or dissimilar conditions experienced by one or more additional vehicle located within a geographic region. A corroborative diagnostic controller compares the fault indicator with the conditions of the additional vehicle. Based on the comparison of the fault indicator with the condition, an error status of the fault indicator is determined. The error status may be that the vehicle subsystem has failed, that the vehicle subsystem has not failed and/or that the results are inconclusive. The corroborative diagnostic controller may communicate directly with a control system of the vehicle.

It is determined whether the activity of an avatar is relevant to a behavior rule for a virtual universe. Abstract:

The present invention teaches methods for applying an avatar behavior rule within a virtual universe environment. An avatar behavior rule and a violation threshold for the rule are defined for a virtual universe environment. The behavior of a collective plurality of avatars within the virtual universe is monitored for compliance with the rule, including determining an amount of compliance with the rule and comparing the compliance amount with the violation threshold. If the compliance amount exceeds the violation threshold, then the rule or the violation threshold is revised until the monitored behavior of the collective plurality of avatars within the virtual universe is in compliance with the rule, and in effect does not exceed the violation threshold. Service methods, articles of manufacture comprising a computer readable program, systems, articles and programmable devices for performing one or more method and/or process elements of the current invention are also provided.

Abstract:

Embodiments of the invention collect data or information from a dynamic and adaptive target group selection. Sets of experts are selected that each have higher value metrics scores relative to scores of other, unselected experts of a population of known experts, and wherein the metric values are indicative of an expertise relevant to one or more questions in a survey. Responses to the survey are used to expand the set of experts by adding experts noted in answer referrals, and to automatically update the expert value metric scores as a function of response timeliness and of degrees of correlation of answers to an expected answer or other norm. The survey is updated by removing satisfied questions, and expert selections, answers analysis and survey updating and resending steps are iteratively repeated until each question is satisfied, wherein the expert sets are dynamically revised for each iteration.

Abstract:

A method, computer program product, and a data processing system continuously tracks the potentially changing location of a plurality of global positioning system (GPS) enabled mobile devices such as a cellular phones or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Generated GPS location updates are used to determine the location and directional velocity of each monitored device. Unique and separate optimal navigation convergence routes are provided to each device. Convergence locations and ETA indicators are provided. A common destination for the devices based on the separate convergence routes is provided. The common destination can be user selected or automatically determined by the system. The system is capable of providing convergence route and common destination information even when users of the various GPS devices are unaware of their present location, the location of other consenting devices, or the location of the common destination.
