Abstract:
A non-explosive actuator includes a housing, a push rod extending into one end of the housing and a plurality of dogs within the housing. A plunger is inserted into an opposite end of the housing and the push rod is depressed and locked in place. Depressing the push rod causes the dogs to engage the plunger and prevent it from being withdrawn from the housing. Unlocking the push rod eventually causes the dogs to release the plunger and allow the plunger to be withdrawn from the housing. The actuator may be reused after the plunger is removed from the housing. The actuator may be reused simply by re-inserting the plunger into the housing and re-depressing the push rod.
Rollers With Oriented Fiber Reinforcement And Method
A roller for use in the cargo bay of an aircraft is disclosed which is constructed with chopped fiber strands incorporated into the rubber and oriented in a substantially circumferential direction around the hub of the roller to provide reinforcement to the rubber portion of the roller.

Abstract:
An elastomeric bore seal, and a method of making and installing it. The seal is a fluid-impervious, thin-walled (0. 025 inch), open-ended, cylinder-like member which is made of an expansible material that can withstand a wide range of temperatures (-65. degree. F. to +400. degree. F. ) and that is to be bonded and thereby installed. The use of the seal is as a bore seal in an electrical machine not only provides an economical, reliable, leak-proof way of excluding stator cooling fluid from the rotor cavity, but also permits a significant reduction (26%) in the weight of the electrical machine and a correspondingly substantial reduction in the size of the machine itself.

A method of injection molding and a mold for the forming of a thin walled fabric reinforced elastomeric diaphragm. According to the method, a thin, precut, preformed sheet of fabric material is placed within a suitable injection mold cavity. Subsequently, a high molecular weight elastomer is injected into the mold cavity in a controlled manner to prevent migration or weave distortion of the fabric material.

Abstract:
A cargo drive unit which, as part of an array of several such units, it disposed in the hold of a vehicle to permit cargo to be moved within the hold. The drive unit derives power from an electric motor to first erect a drive a roller into contact with a load and then to move the load. A hysteresis coupling is disposed between the motor and the roller and functions to limit the force of the roller against the load to be driven by adjusting the excitation current thereto. The hysteresis coupling allows the roller to retract when the current to the coupling is removed and limits shock loading to drive gearing and the motor when excessive loads are applied to the roller.
