Abstract:
Playlists having media items from more than one source are described. Media items in a first library are mapped to media items from an online media item store. Media items within the playlist that can be found in the first library will be played from the first library, while media items not within the first library will be played from the online media store. By identifying media items present in both libraries and playing them only from the first library, the described method can reduce the royalties needing to be paid by the online media store. Further methods are disclosed for setting limits on the number of media items that can be shared by a second library.

Dynamic Adjustment Of Master And Individual Volume Controls
Techniques for controlling the volumes of multiple audio output devices using a collective (master) volume control and an individual volume control for each audio output device. In one set of embodiments, each individual volume control can be configured to indicate the current absolute volume level of its corresponding audio output device. When the master volume control is manually adjusted, the individual volume controls can be automatically adjusted in a manner proportional to the manual adjustment of the master volume control. In addition, when an individual volume control is manually adjusted to a setting or value that exceeds the master volume control, the master volume control can be automatically adjusted to be equal to, or greater than, the manually adjusted setting for the individual volume control. In this scenario, the other individual volume controls can remain unchanged.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for multi-channel panning is provided. Multi-channel panning allows the operator to view how a manipulated source signal will be heard by a listener at a reference point in a sound space. The panner user interface (UI) displays a separate visual element for each channel of source audio, thus the operator can see how each channel will be heard by a listener at a reference point in the sound space. Each visual element may depict the apparent point of origination of its corresponding source channel. Each visual element may depict the apparent width of origination of its corresponding source channel. Each visual element may depict the amplitude gain of its corresponding source channel. An operator can choose a mix of attenuating or collapsing behavior when panning. Moreover, the visual elements depict the relative proportions of attenuating and collapsing behavior.

Abstract:
Methods, systems and apparatus for image-based browsing through a plurality of digital media assets assisted by media cues are disclosed. The media cues can be provided by playback of short audio segments, referred to as snippets, of the digital media assets being browsed. The digital media assets can be grouped into collections of digital media assets. In one embodiment, as a user browses through digital media assets using visual representations of the collections of digital media assets, media cues can be provided.

Abstract:
Displaying and navigating items in an ordered list within a graphical user interface for viewing and utilizing the data are disclosed. An ordered list of data items can be used to generate an icon that represents the contents of the list. The icon can comprise images that best represent the items in the ordered list by choosing images associated with the highest ranked items in the ordered list. When the ordered list is selected by selecting the icon with a pointing device or keyboard the icon transforms to display an image of a currently selected data item with navigational controls. The navigational controls can receive inputs from a pointing device or keyboard to allow a user to navigate or browse through the items in the list without having to open a new view.
