Abstract:
A method of generating a tracking beacon comprises detecting that the tracking device has been activated. The method also comprises communicating with a sensor of the tracking device to verify that the tracking device is in motion and is traveling towards an intended destination along with a payload. The method further comprises detecting that the tracking device has stopped moving after verifying that the tracking device is in motion traveling towards the intended destination and reading a position of the tracking device after detecting that the tracking device has stopped moving. The method still further comprises transmitting, after the position of the tracking device has been read, the position of the tracking device using a wireless transceiver. The method further comprises waiting a predetermined time after transmitting the position of the tracking device and transmitting a beacon signal using a short-range wireless communication after the predetermined amount of time.

An apparatus that facilitates search and rescue, for example, in open water. The apparatus comprises a substrate with a particular geometry and a perimeter. The apparatus further comprises a cover positioned atop the substrate with the cover also having a particular geometry and perimeter, which correspond to the geometry and perimeter of the substrate. An air-tight seal seals the substrate perimeter to the cover perimeter and creates a sealed internal region. A breakable vessel holding an activator is located in the sealed internal region, along with illuminable dyes that are also located in the sealed internal region. When the breakable vessel is broken, the activator reacts with the illuminable dyes and illuminates the illuminable dyes.
The present disclosure teaches an article of manufacture using an industrial (or commercial) manufacturing process. The article of manufacture comprises an infrared (IR) luminescent material that emits in the IR wavelength range (e.g., from approximately seven-hundred nanometers (700 nm) to approximately one millimeter (1 mm)) after being excited by incident wavelengths of between 100 nm and 750 nm (or visible light). In other words, once the material has been exposed to visible light, the material will continue to emit in the IR wavelength range for a period of time, even when the material is no longer exposed to the visible light.

Abstract:
A tracking device comprises a controller and a location positioning device (such as GPS). The tracking device also includes a transceiver. In use, the controller reads position information from the GPS, and telemeters the location information using the transceiver. In some embodiments, the tracking device includes two transceivers, including a short-range wireless transceiver (such as Bluetooth), and a second transceiver that facilitates relatively longer-range communication compared to the short-range wireless transceiver. In alternative embodiments, the location positioning device is not required, such as where the tracking device includes a beacon or other absolute or relative locating device and/or locating functionality. The tracking device can also and/or alternatively include sensors and other features.
