Abstract:

A delay locked loop clock generation circuit () includes a delay locked loop circuit (), a dummy delay line (), and a watch dog circuit (). The delay locked loop circuit includes a delay line (), a phase detector (), and a charge pump circuit () having an input connected to the output () of the phase detector and an output () producing a delay control signal (Vctrl) coupled to the stages of the delay line of the delay locked loop circuit. The stages of the delay line are precisely matched to those of the dummy delay line (). Tap points of the dummy delay line are connected to inputs of the watchdog circuit (), which operates to generate control signals (A,B) applied to control the phase detector ( and the charge pump circuit (). Tap point signals of the delay line () are decoded to produce clock signals () for a pipeline ADC ().

Abstract:

Exemplary embodiments of the disclosure include adaptively generating a bias current for a switched-capacitor circuit. An exemplary apparatus includes a first phase signal and a second phase signal operating at a sampling rate. An asserted time of the first phase signal and an asserted time of the second phase signal are separated by a predefined non-overlap time. The apparatus also includes a switched-capacitor circuit with a plurality of switched capacitors operably coupled to the first phase signal and the second phase signal. An amplifier is operably coupled to the switched-capacitor circuit and has a response time inversely proportional to an adaptive bias current. A bias generator is coupled to the amplifier and operates to modify the adaptive bias current responsive to the asserted time of the first phase signal.

Abstract:

Feedback circuits with DC offset cancellation are described. In an exemplary design, a feedback circuit includes a slow integrator and a summer. The slow integrator receives a first intermediate signal at a particular point in the feedback circuit and provides a second intermediate signal. The summer is located after the particular point and receives and sums the first and second intermediate signals to reduce DC offset in the first intermediate signal. In one design, the feedback circuit may be a delta-sigma (ΔΣ) modulator with at least one integrator coupled in cascade. The slow integrator is coupled to the output of the last integrator, receives the first intermediate signal from the last integrator, and provides the second intermediate signal. The summer is coupled to the last integrator and the slow integrator and sums the first and second intermediate signals to reduce DC offset in the first intermediate signal.

Abstract:

An intake manifold assembly (12) for an internal combustion engine (16) which can vary the intake geometry of the air flowing therethrough. The intake manifold assembly (12) includes a pair of secondary runners (28), one for each bank of cylinders, with each of the secondary runners (28) able to selectively communicate with a small plenum (44) at its end or a large plenum (36) intermediate its ends. The intake manifold assembly (12) also includes a set of primary runners (46) able to selectively communicate with the small plenums (44) at their upstream ends or the large plenums (36) intermediate their ends. The airflow is switchable through the actuation of upper runner control valves (40) and lower runner control valves (50) to thereby vary the tuning of the intake manifold to improve the overall torque and horsepower output of the engine.

Abstract:

The cylinders (12; 48, 50) are disposed such that each piston-cylinder axis (16; 56, 58) does not intersect the crankshaft axis (20; 47). Timing of combustion within each cylinder is controlled to cause maximum combustion pressure to occur when an imaginary plane that contains both a respective connection axis (28; 66, 70) of a respective connecting rod (24; 62, 64) to the respective piston (14; 52, 54) and a respective connection axis (30; 68, 72) of the connecting rod to a respective throw of the crankshaft is substantially coincident with the respective cylinder axis along which the piston reciprocates. In a V-type engine the axes of those cylinders in a respective bank are disposed in a respective imaginary plane (76; 78) forming a respective side of a V. The respective imaginary planes intersect along an imaginary line (74) that is parallel to the crankshaft axis and spaced from the crankshaft axis by a distance (A) substantially equal to the distance (A) by which the connection axis of each connecting rod to the respective throw is spaced from the crankshaft axis when the imaginary plane that contains both the respective connection axis to the respective piston and the respective connection axis to the respective throw is substantially coincident with the respective cylinder axis.
