An anoscope for inspection and/or surgery is provided. The anoscope includes a tubular body having a distal end, a proximal end, and a longitudinal axis defined therebetween, where the tubular body includes at least one elongated slot. The anoscope also includes an insert removably attached to the at least one elongated slot in the tubular body. The insert including an elongated slot having a smaller width than the at least one elongated slot in the tubular body.

Abstract:
A system and method for the analysis of one or more patient encounters from one or more healthcare related information systems of a healthcare organization are disclosed. The system and method include a data processing system, which provides a graphical user interface which accepts a query regarding the patient encounters, which receives data in response to the query from the one or more healthcare related information systems about a plurality of pre-selected objects concerning the one or more patient encounters, and which arranges the data according to a data model which sets relations between the pre-selected objects. The system and method also employ the relations between the pre-selected objects to provide a report to the accepted query, and output the report.

Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for providing subcutaneous hydration are disclosed. A system for providing subcutaneous hydration may include an infusion bag including a hydration fluid, a tubing removably connected to the infusion bag, a squeezable bulb at least partially encompassing the tubing for at least one of flushing and priming the tubing, and a deployment device including an integrated needle which provides subcutaneous hydration through the needle. A deployment device for subcutaneous hydration includes a base having a needle aperture, a casing attached to the base, a firing mechanism within the casing for deploying a needle from the casing, and at least one wing attached to the base that includes an actuator that regulates the firing mechanism. A method for providing subcutaneous hydration may include steps necessary to operate the systems and devices for subcutaneous hydration.

Abstract:
Systems and methods that facilitate extraction and analysis of patient encounters from one or more healthcare related information systems are provided. In an aspect, a system includes a reception component configured to receive information from a plurality of sources regarding courses of care of a plurality of patients, including information identifying activities associated with the courses of care, timing of the activities, resources associated with the activities, and caregiver personal associated with the activities. The system further includes an indexing component configured to generate an index that relates aspects of the information, a filter component configured to employ the index to identify a subset of the information related to a subset of the courses of care for patients associated with a similar medical condition, and an analysis component configured to compare aspects of the subset of the information to identify variance in the subset of the courses of care.

Abstract:
A head-mounted pointing device is disclosed, and can be used for example for surgical training. The pointing device includes a frame or harness assembly made from a circumferential headband and a cross strap that extends over the user's (i.e. trainers) head. A laser pointer is mounted on one side of the circumferential headband, and a battery pack is provided to power the laser pointer. An user-operated pneumatically controlled switch is used to toggle the laser pointer. By moving the user's head and by activating the switch to engage the laser pointer, the trainer can point to a given target, such as material to be surgically excised from the patient during a surgical procedure.
