Abstract:Inductive heating elements are provided with a specific configuration that results in a thermal wave that moves along a smoking device during a cleaning process, and control circuitry that maintains resonant conditions for maximum efficiency and power transfer during the thermal cleaning of the smoking device. A secondary can is positioned around electrical heater blades that contact the cigarette, and is configured to by preferentially heated by the induction of current within the can for the removal of condensates formed within the smoking device through extended periods of use.

Abstract:Improved delivery of additive materials to cigarettes is provided through the use of one or more capsules containing additive materials, such as flavor components, in the filter section of a cigarette. The sealed capsule or capsules are subjected to an external force, such as squeezing, by a smoker prior to or during smoking of the cigarette in order to release at least a portion of the additive material from the one or more capsules and expose the additive material to mainstream smoke passing through the filter. The sealed capsules provide a barrier between the additive materials and other cigarettes components, such as sorbents or filter materials, in order to reduce additive material migration into the other cigarette components prior to desired use.

Abstract:Thermal indicators for non-combustion smoking articles which physically change when heated to provide visual indications of temperature changes are disclosed. The indicators comprise waxes or other compounds which melt away to reveal colored substrates, or comprise microencapsulated chemicals which are released when heated to cause inking or dyeing. The thermal indicators are printed in variety of patterns along the length of the smoking articles to show temperature changes and to indicate whether the smoking article is finished and should be discarded.

Abstract:A flavor source to be used as a thermally releasable flavorant for smoking articles that do not combust tobacco. The material includes tobacco particles, an aerosol precursor that forms an aerosol upon exposure to heat, and a filler material that absorbs and radiates heat to minimize the likelihood that the flavor material will ignite. The material is mixed in an extruder, extruded through a die, and cut into pellets having a substantially uniform shape. The pellets are loaded into a chamber for inclusion in a smoking article as a flavor generator.
