Abstract:

The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for modifying a structure such as a medical device through the selective application of a coating. A coating sleeve may comprise an elastomeric wall that may be permeable or impermeable to a coating material and may be porous so as to allow for patterned coating of the device. The coating sleeve may contain surface protrusions that facilitate manipulation by providing sites for grasping and pulling. In operation the coating sleeve may be fitted on the device prior to application of a coating and removed subsequent to application of the coating.

Abstract:

The invention resides in utilizing a servo motor to drive the label feed and employing a control system for the servo motor which is responsive to the rate of feed or speed of the surface to be labelled as it is advanced to the labeller. The control system on receiving an instruct-to-label signal accelerates the servo motor smoothly from zero to the desired labelling speed while the surface to be labelled is advanced toward the labeller a predetermined distance and on receiving an end to labelling signal decelerates the servo motor smoothly from labelling speed to zero while the label feed is advanced a predetermined distance. The arrangement is such that upon an instruct to label signal being fed to the control system at a predetermined position of advance of the surface relative to the labeller the labeller will accelerate a label from a predetermined start position and deliver same to touch down on the surface to be labelled at the precise desired point with the label moving at the same speed as the surface and upon an end to labelling signal generated by a label feed sensor being fed to the control system the labeller will decelerate to bring the next label to be delivered to said predetermined start position in preparation for the next instruct-to-label signal.

Abstract:

Improved package assemblies for containers, the packaging assemblies comprising a rigid base member having at least one row of containers removably secured to the base member by frangible adhesive, a cover member and a film of plastic material passing over the base member, the containers and the cover member and secured to itself to further secure the containers in assembly therewith. An improved package assembly according to the present invention may also have at least two layers of containers, such a package assembly comprising a rigid base member, a first layer of containers removably secured to the base member by frangible adhesive, at least one additional layer of containers removably secured to at least one intermediate pad by frangible adhesive, said at least one additional layer being placed on top of the first layer of containers, a cover member placed over the uppermost layer of containers, and a film of plastic material passing over the base member, the containers, the at least one intermediate pad and the cover member and secured to itself to further secure the containers in assembly therewith. The containers are removable from the assembly by removing the plastic film and cover member and separating the containers from the base member and/or intermediate pad by breaking the frangible adhesive.

Abstract:

The disclosure is directed to a modular frame assembly for electrical and electronic components and a universal rail member used in its formation which permits fabrication of the assembly in various sizes and configurations. The rail member comprises an elongated web with longitudinal sides and edges. A pair of first ridge members project laterally outward from one side of the web and extend over its length in spaced, parallel relation. A pair of second ridge members project laterally outward from the opposite side of the web, also extending over its length in parallel, spaced relation. The second ridge members are spaced apart to engageably receive the first ridge members of another rail member in interlockable relation. At least one notch is formed in each of the second ridge members, the notches being transversely aligned, and sized and configured to receive the end of another rail member in perpendicular, interlocking relation.

Abstract:

In labelling apparatus for precision application of labels to continuously conveyed articles, labels are applied which have a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing releasably carried by a web. To provide precision in application, the leading portion of the label next to be applied is sensed and is separated from the web. A control device, on receiving a sensed label signal, determines the extent to which the leading portion of separated label extends from the web preparatory to article application. The control device resumes web movement to marry label speed with conveyed article speed in applying label to desired article location.

Abstract:

A method for removing dissolved species from a fluid while allowing suspended solid particles to remain within in the fluid, where the fluid includes dissolved species and suspended solid particles. The method includes providing a solid phase extraction article comprising a first end, a second end opposite the first end, an axis extending from the first end to the second end, and a porous, particle loaded, fibrous sheet material formed into a spiral configuration about the axis. The sheet material is wound around itself to provide multiple layers of sheet material, each layer of sheet material is spaced from each adjacent layer of sheet material, and the sheet material comprises a first working surface, a second, opposite working surface, and an inner portion comprising active particles between the first and second working surfaces. The method further includes passing a fluid including dissolved species and suspended solid particles through the solid phase extraction article from the first end to the second end in an axial direction. The suspended solid particles preferably do not substantially obstruct the first or second working surfaces so that the fluid including dissolved species can reach the inner portion of the sheet material.
