Abstract:
A process reorders tobacco that has been expanded by impregnating the tobacco under pressure with liquid carbon dioxide, forming a solid mass of the tobacco and solid carbon dioxide, and heating the solid mass in an expansion zone to sublimate the carbon dioxide and thereby expand the tobacco. The expanded tobacco is discharged from the expansion zone and before the temperature of the expanded tobacco is below about 80 F., the tobacco is contacted with humidifying air having a temperature of about 80 F. to about 91 F. and a relative humidity of about 58% to about 88%.

Abstract:
A process reorders tobacco that has been expanded by impregnating the tobacco under pressure with liquid carbon dioxide, forming a frozen mass of the tobacco and carbon dioxide, and heating the frozen mass in an expansion zone to sublimate the carbon dioxide and thereby expand the tobacco. The expanded tobacco is discharged from the expansion zone and before the temperature of the expanded tobacco is below about 80 F. and preferably when the expanded tobacco is at an elevated temperature of between about 180 F. and about 212 F., the tobacco is contacted with humidifying air having a temperature of about 80 F. to about 91 F. and a relative humidity of about 58% to about 88%.

Abstract:
A cigarette package includes an open topped container for holding a plurality of cigarettes and a cover hinged to the back wall of the container for selectively closing the open top of the container. The top edge of the front wall of the container is lower than the top edge of the back wall of the container and each of the container side walls are notched such that the top edge of the container side walls defining the notch extend from the top edge of the container back wall to the top edge of the container front wall. The cover has a top wall, a front wall, and two side walls. Each of the cover side walls are notched in a complementary shape to the notched portion of the container side walls. The cover is releasably held in a closed position closing the open top of the container by interlocking latches and strikers. The latch is formed in the cover and the striker is formed in the container.
