A method for using an authentication server to obtain dial-out information about a network including the steps of receiving a destination network address to the authentication server; obtaining a network number and a corresponding network mask from a database; applying said network mask to said destination network address and comparing the result to said network number; retrieving a profile corresponding to said network number and network mask from a database if said network number matches the result of applying said network mask to said destination network address; and repeating said obtaining, applying, and retrieving steps if said network number does not match the result of applying said network mask to said destination network address.
Dial-Out Link Selection Via Static Route Redistribution
Dial-out route service is forwarded by a gateway to reduce congestion in a data communication network. The first gateway determines availability of it ports to provide dial-out service to a dial-out route. If the first gateway is unable to provide dial-out service to the dial-out route, then the first gateway transfers information corresponding to the dial-out route to a second gateway. The second gateway may access a central database storing static routes corresponding to the transferred dial-out route information. The central database is typically stored on a server providing security services, which may include access, authentication, and authorization. The second gateway advertises the transferred dial-out route and a respective priority level to effectuate the dial-out route transfer. The dial-out route may be terminated based on one or more termination parameters. In an alternate embodiment, a network node determines the first gateways state of congestion corresponding to the first gateways ability to provide dial-out route service.
Combining Multilink And Ip Per-Destination Load Balancing Over A Multilink Bundle
Load balanced transport of best efforts traffic together with delay-bounded traffic over a multilink bundle combines fragmentation and fragment distribution for best efforts packets with per-flow balancing for delay-bounded traffic. In the preferred embodiments, the best efforts packets receive Multilink Protocol treatment, including fragmentation and addition of sequence headers. Fragments of packets for one such communication go over the various links within the bundle, as appropriate for load balancing on the links. For each delay-bounded flow, such as for a VOIP service, the sending node hashes the packet header data and applies all packets for the flow to one of the links, assigned as a function of the hash value. Different flow headers produce different hash results; therefore the node sends different flows over the different links in a substantially balanced manner.

Abstract:
Packet network addresses, such as Internet Protocol addresses, may be assigned dynamically to computer systems accessed from the packet network by dial-out calls through a telephone network. A dial-out destination system will have an assigned name, typically a domain name. In response to a request for translation of the name, a network access server capable of reaching the destination obtains or assigns an address on a temporary basis. The network access server initiates the call to the destination system through the telephone network. The system initiating communication to the destination system uses the assigned address in any subsequent packet data communications. When the communication ends, the address is again available for a new assignment. This approach provides a dynamic address assignment technique for use on dial-out access services.
Method And Apparatus Providing Dial On Demand Scaling
A method and apparatus providing improved service in IP networks requiring switch circuit connections by allowing many local systems to establish a switched circuit connection to a remote system without using equal cost routing. The invention detects when a system is over-subscribed (no circuits available for dial-out), congested (lacking other resources to provide dial-out), or more band-width is demanded, and scales to the demand by forcing dial-out from an alternative system. Existence of the new connection is made available to existing systems by updates to system routing tables. The scaling capability is also used to address incoming calls that require a callback from the most appropriate system.

Abstract:
A communications system includes base transceiver stations providing wireless services for mobile units. The system further includes a packet network coupling the stations to a gateway. To distribute information received for communication to a mobile unit, the gateway may encapsulate the information as a multicast packet addressed to a multicast address. This multicast address corresponds to a multicast group associated with the mobile unit. The packet network distributes copies of the multicast packet to a group of stations that are registered for the multicast group. These stations may then communicate information from the multicast packet to the mobile unit using wireless communications techniques.

Abstract:
A selection and distribution unit (SDU) in a wireless radio access network is configured to receive signal quality information about a plurality of data streams, and based on the signal quality information, to select one of the plurality of data streams to be forwarded independently of the SDU. The data streams are associated with a call session from a mobile device and received by base transceiver stations, which provide the signal quality information about the received data streams to the SDU. Only one data stream is selected by the SDU for forwarding to a network device such as a PSTN gateway. The SDU provides a multicast address to the network device for transmitting data streams to the mobile device, and commands a base transceiver station to listen at that multicast address to receive the data stream. The SDU also establishes a multicast address for a plurality of base transceiver stations to receive commands from the SDU.
