Abstract:
Acrylate copolymers comprising (a) repeating units derived from at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester and, by weight of the total copolymer, (b) about 0. 1 to 3% of repeating units derived from at least one water-soluble monomer possessing conjugated unsaturation and (c) about 0. 1 to 3% of repeating units derived from at least one water-soluble allyl monomer; aqueous polyacrylate dispersions comprising such polymers; and a process of preparing the same. Optionally, the copolymers contain other free-radical polymerizable monomers.
Disclosed are aqueous polyacrylate dispersions having improved rheological and stability characteristics prepared by the emulsion polymerization of acrylic esters, methacrylic esters and mixtures thereof in the presence of at least one protective colloid, wherein the improvement comprises conducting the polymerization in the presence of, by weight of the total monomer content, from about 0. 1 to 5% of at least one substantially completely water-soluble monomer having conjugated unsaturation. The resultant aqueous polyacrylate dispersions are useful in the manufacture of latex paints, binders for nonwoven materials, water-based inks, paper coatings and water-borne adhesives, such as pressure-sensitive adhesives.
Suspension Polymerization Of A Vinyl Monomer In The Presence Of (A) Carboxymethyl Hydrophobically Modified Hydroxyethylcellulose (Cmhmhec) Or (B) Cmhmhec In Combination With An Electrolyte Or Polyelectrolyte
Suspension polymerization a vinyl monomer in the presence of from about 0. 01 to 2. 0%, by weight of the total monomer content, of a carboxymethyl hydrophobically modified water-soluble, nonionic cellulose either polymer alone or in combination with an inert electrolyte or inert polyelectrolyte is disclosed. The presence of the carboxymethyl hydrophobically modified water-soluble, nonionic cellulose ether polymer alone or in combination with an inert electrolyte or inert polyelectrolyte provides suspension polymer beads of narrower polydispersity and clarity, and results in minimal latex polymer (emulsion polymer) by-products.
Polyacrylate Dispersions Prepared With A Water-Soluble Conjugated Unsaturated Monomer In The Absence Of A Protective Colloid
Disclosed are aqueous polyacrylate dispersions having improved rheological and stability characteristics prepared by the emulsion polymerization of acrylic esters, methacrylic esters and mixtures thereof in the absence of a protective colloid, wherein the improvement comprises conducting the polymerization in the presence of, by weight of the total monomer content, from about 0. 1 to 2% of at least one substantially completely water-soluble monomer having conjugated unsaturation. The resultant aqueous polyacrylate dispersions are useful in the manufacture of latex paints, binders for nonwoven materials, water-based inks, paper coatings and water-borne adhesives, such as pressure-sensitive adhesives.
Disclosed are aqueous polyacrylate dispersions having improved rheological and stability characteristics prepared by the emulsion polymerization of acrylic esters, methacrylic esters and mixtures thereof in the presence of, by weight of the total monomer content, (a) from about 0. 1 to 5% of at least one water-soluble amino alcohol compound and (b) from about 0. 05 to about 5% of at least one protective colloid. The resultant aqueous polyacrylate dispersions are useful in the manufacture of latex paints, binders for nonwoven materials, water-based inks, paper coatings and water-borne adhesives, such as pressure-sensitive adhesives.
Process For Preparation Of Polymers By Suspension Polymerization Of Vinyl Monomer In The Presence Of Hydrophobically Modified Watersoluble, Nonionic Cellulose Ether Polymer In Combination With Electrolyte
A process for manufacture of polymers comprising suspension polymerization of at least one vinyl monomer in the presence of from about 0. 01% to about 0. 4% by weight, based on the total monomer content, of at least one hydrophobically modified water-soluble, nonionic cellulose ether polymer and an inert electrolyte, and polymers prepared by same.
Hydrophobically Modified Hydroxyethyl Cellulose In Aqueous Polymerization Dispersions
Disclosed are aqueous dispersions having improved rheological and stability characteristics prepared by the emulsion polymerization of low protective colloid grafting potential monomers in the presence of a hydrophobically modified hydroxyethyl cellulose. The resultant aqueous dispersions or latices are useful in the manufacture of latex paints, binders for nonwoven materials, water-based inks, paper coatings and water-borne adhesives, such as pressure-sensitive adhesives.
