Abstract:
Chemical sampling systems and methods that can inexpensively and efficiently provide accurate chemical sampling in dusty environments are disclosed. The system can include a chemical detector, an elastomeric membrane, and a support structure for the elastomeric membrane. The gas chromatograph can have a sample inlet through which chemicals from the gaseous environment can enter the gas chromatograph. The sample inlet can be covered with the elastomeric membrane, the elastomeric membrane being configured to extract chemicals from the gaseous environment while excluding dust and other particles from passing into the gas chromatograph. The support structure can be disposed between the elastomeric membrane and the sample inlet and can provide mechanical support to the elastomeric membrane.

Abstract:
A system and method for tracking a person using a deduced reckoning device is disclosed. The method includes the operation of selecting an initial location of the person. The person's movement along a path is then monitored using directional sensors, including a digital magnetic compass, at least one accelerometer, at least one magnetometer, at least one gyroscope, and an altimeter. The person's changing location is recorded based on a change in outputs of the directional sensors that occur during the person's movement. The person's changing location is transmitted to a command and control center. The person's changing location is then displayed on a graphical user interface at the command and control center.

Abstract:
Generating a computer model to display a position of a person in a defined location is disclosed. A method includes the operation of selecting a substantially overhead image of a defined location having spatial coordinates. A perimeter of the defined location is marked using a graphical user interface. The marked perimeter is related to the spatial coordinates of the defined location. A computer model of the defined location is generated based on the marked perimeter. Multiple levels can be added to the computer model. Spatial coordinates of the person can be determined. The position of the person can be displayed relative to the computer model of the defined location based on the spatial coordinates of the person relative to the spatial coordinates of the defined location.

Abstract:
Tracking a person in a building can be performed by obtaining a building layout with respect to a surrounding geography and tracking movement of the person using a monitoring device carried by the person. A correction angle can be calculated to normalize tracked movement of the person with respect to a skew angle of the building layout. The correction angle can be applied to the tracked movement of the person or the building layout.

Abstract:
Variable step tracking is described in which a monitoring station is operable to receive data signals representative of step movement of an asset as detected by a monitoring device carried by the asset. A database stores a step length of the asset. A step length modification module modifies the step length based on at least one of energy, asset orientation, direction, and frequency associated with the step movement. An asset position is estimated with respect to a known location based on cumulative step lengths.
