Abstract:

A vent system includes a spring-loaded closed vent valve mounted in the upper portion of the truck tank and a spring-loaded closed safety valve mounted in the bottom of the tank. The safety valve has a discharge portion carrying an actuator pin which disengagably abuts the underside of the safety valve member and is actuated to lift the valve member to permit flow of gasoline from or into the tank. The vent valve member is operatively connected to the safety valve member by an actuating rod so that the vent valve is opened or closed when the safety valve is opened or closed. The safety valve, actuating rod and vent valve are provided with an overboard vent passage which extends from an inlet in the safety valve member to an outlet in the vent valve member. When the actuator pin is actuated to open the safety valve, the inner end of the pin covers the vent passage inlet and vapors are vented from the tank through the vent valve in a normal manner. When the safety valve is closed, a small spring carried on the actuator pin urges the inner end of the actuator pin away from the safety valve member, thereby opening the vent passage so that the discharge portion of the safety valve is vented overboard.

Abstract:

The butterfly valve includes a body having a cylindrical bore, a continuous internal groove in the bore and a resilient O-type, sealing ring mounted in the groove. Rotatably mounted in the bore for shutting off flow is a valve member which preferably is disc-shaped and includes a peripheral seating surface of spherical shape for sealingly engaging the sealing ring when the valve is in a closed position. The valve member also includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced retainers, such as a plurality of axially extending fins located on the opposite sides of the disc and having a curvilinear outer face, which slidably engage normally unrestrained sections of the sealing ring and mechanically retain these sections against dislodgment from the groove during valve operation, particularly by the differential fluid forces existing across the valve member during initial opening and final closing.

A folding assembly for forming a gusset in a file folder hinge and folding the file folder with the gusset inside of the file folder, the assembly including a transporting arrangement for moving a file folder in sequence through a scoring station, a creasing station, a squeezing station and a folding station, the creasing station including a drive assembly for moving one panel of the file folder toward the other as the hinge is creased. Abstract:

The butterfly valve includes a body having a generally cylindrical bore defining a flow passage and a generally circular, stem-mounted disc member rotatably mounted within the bore for shutting off flow. The disc member is comprised of two identically arranged halves which are formed from an inexpensive, relatively thin material. The disc halves include central semicylindrical portions defining a hub for receiving the stem and a flange defining a continuous, peripheral groove including diametrically opposed annular portions which encircle the stem. Disposed in the disc groove is a unitary, resilient sealing ring including annular sections which engage flattened portions of the bore to provide stem seals throughout all positions of the disc and semicircular portions which sealingly engage the bore when the disc member is in a closed position. The disc halves and sealing ring can be assembled together before installation of the disc member into the valve body bore or assembled together inside the valve body bore.
