It was made in response to a filing by Republican Massachusetts state Rep. Daniel Winslow during his unsuccessful campaign for U.S. Senate. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee later echoed Winslows request.
The American-born son of Colombian immigrants, Gomez beat former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan of Abington and state Rep. Daniel Winslow of Norfolk in the GOP primary. Hell face Markey in the June 25 special election.
Natick voters followed the statewide trend, picking Markey over U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch 2,323 to 902. On the Republican side, Gomez earned 480 votes compared to 316 for Michael Sullivan and 152 for Daniel Winslow, according to unofficial results.
Markey defeated fellow U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch in the Democratic primary while Gomez, whos also a businessman, bested former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep. Daniel Winslow in the GOP primary, according to unofficial returns. The special election is scheduled for June 25.
