since the 2005-06 season, Painter's first as head coach, when Purdue lost five straight to end the season. Injuries to David Teague and Carl Landry marred that season, which was immediately followed by an extended run of Big Ten Conference championship contention behind one standout recruiting class.

(Moore and Johnson won their 100th game at Purdue on Tuesday night.) Painter, who has quietly emerged as one of the best recruiters and coaches in the nation, also had the advantage of coming back to West Lafayette as a head-coach-in-waiting, and was able to hit the road and establish recruiting relationships.
