  • Modular Engine Manifold Construction

    view source
  • US Patent:
    44689250, Sep 4, 1984
  • Filed:
    Aug 5, 1982
  • Appl. No.:
    6/405515
  • Inventors:
Darrel Kersting - Black River Falls WI
  • Assignee:
Nelson Industries, Inc. - Stoughton WI
  • International Classification:
    F01N 710
  • US Classification:
    60322
  • Abstract:
A modular engine manifold construction comprising a series of cast metal headers, each having an inlet communicating with an exhaust gas port in the engine. Each header is also provided with a passage that extends through the headers and is located generally normal to the inlet. Stainless steel tubes are slidably mounted within the aligned passages and interconnect the headers. The ends of the tubes are provided with longitudinally extending slots which engage locating pins on the inner surface of the headers to prevent rotation of the tubes, yet permit longitudinal movement of the tubes relative to the header to accommodate heat expansion. The ends of the tubes are also provided with cut-out sections or notches which are aligned with the inlet in the header when the slots in the tubes are engaged with the locating pins. The assembled manifold is a non-welded construction formed of a minimum number of component parts.
  • Adaptor For Connecting Tubular Members In An Exhaust System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46131701, Sep 23, 1986
  • Filed:
    Dec 20, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/684093
  • Inventors:
Darrel Kersting - Black River Falls WI
  • Assignee:
Nelson Industries, Inc. - Stoughton WI
  • International Classification:
    F16L 5500
  • US Classification:
    285187
  • Abstract:
An adaptor for connecting tubular members in an exhaust system. The adaptor comprises a tube having opposite ends that are curled outwardly in a generally circular configuration. The curled ends of the adaptor are press fitted within the ends of the tubular members of the exhaust system and each curled end is disposed adjacent an internal shoulder in the respective tubular member. Exhaust gases passing through the adaptor will heat the adaptor causing it to expand axially to bring the curled ends into firm contact with the respective shoulders, and the outer surfaces of the curled ends will flatten against the walls of the respective tubular members to provide a tight seal between the adaptor and the tubular members.
  • Pleated Filter Element Having Improved Side Seam Seal

    view source
  • US Patent:
    47357207, Apr 5, 1988
  • Filed:
    Mar 17, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/839946
  • Inventors:
Darrel Kersting - Black River Falls WI
  • Assignee:
Nelson Industries Inc. - Stoughton WI
  • International Classification:
    C01D 2706
  • US Classification:
    2104935
  • Abstract:
A pleated filter element comprising a sheet of filter material disposed in generally cylindrical configuration and having a series of longitudinally extending pleats. The pleats have outer radial extremities that lie on an outer circle and inner radial extremities that lie on an inner circle. The end pleats in the series terminate in side edges which are disposed in contiguous relation. A mass or bar of synthetic resin connects and encapsulates the side edges, and the connected end pleats have the same radial depth as the remaining pleats in the filter.
