Abstract:

An aircraft drainmast assembly including a drainmast for ejection of waste water from an aircraft and a grounding plate for protection against lightning strike currents. The grounding plate is made of an electrically conductive material and is attached to the metallic drain tube in such manner (e. g. , welding) that a conductive path is established between the grounding plate and the drain tube. The grounding plate is placed in contact with the aircraft fuselage during installation of the drainmast whereby an electrically conductive path is formed thereby allowing lightning strike currents to travel from the drain tube to the grounding plate to the aircraft fuselage. The grounding plate may be pressed against the outside surface of the fuselage by an elastomeric gasket installed between the grounding plate and a flange of the drainmasts fairing thereby allowing for a simple lightning protection installation from the outside of the aircraft.

Abstract:

An aircraft supplemental air heater including a coiled composite having a series of passes defining a spiral shaped airflow passage therebetween. The composite includes a heating element that provides a controlled heat output when a voltage potential is applied across it. The composite also includes a convective heat transfer surface to which the heat output is transferred whereby as air flows through the heaters spiral shaped airflow passage, it passes over the convective heat transfer surface and heat is thereby transferred to the air through convection. The aircraft supplemental air heater maybe installed in-line with an air supply duct leading to the cabin of the aircraft and/or may be installed downstream of a fan. The heater may be made by assembling a composite panel and then forming this panel into the desired coiled shape.

Abstract:

The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for extracting a sample from a strip of material. The apparatus comprises a roller having a periphery surface, a cutting wheel having a cutting die extending from its periphery, and wherein the material strip advances between the roller and the cutting wheel. During advancement of the material strip, the cutting wheel rotates in coordinated relation and into a position wherein the cutting die engages the material strip and rotates through engagement with the periphery surface of the roller, thereby extracting a sample from the material strip. The method comprises advancing a strip of material between a roller having a hardened periphery surface and a cutting wheel having a cutting die extending from the periphery thereof, rotating the cutting wheel so that the cutting die engages the strip of material and the hardened roller periphery, thereby extracting a sample from said strip, and rotating the cutting wheel to an ejection position, whereby the sample is ejected from the cutting die.

Abstract:

The invention is in the field of electrical resistance heaters, especially heaters for tubes, pipes, or flexible hose. More particularly, the invention is directed to an electrical heater formed as a strip that is permanently set in the shape of a helix. According to an aspect of the invention, an electrical heater is provided comprising a flexible electrical insulation strip bounded by a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge, wherein the flexible electrical insulation strip is permanently set as a helix such that the first longitudinal edge is adjacent to the second longitudinal edge; and, a flexible electrical heating element encapsulated within the electrical insulation strip.
