Abstract:

In a first aspect, a first apparatus is provided. The first apparatus includes (1) a tank adapted to contain fluid; (2) at least one support component mounted in the tank and adapted to support a substrate in a supported position at least partially submerged in the fluid; (3) a transducer adapted to output sonic energy into the fluid; and (4) a reflector positioned at a side of the substrate and adapted to reflect the sonic energy toward an edge of the substrate so as to provide a 100% duty cycle. The reflector is positioned such that the reflector does not obstruct a path employed to load the substrate into the supported position and to unload the substrate from the supported position. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract:

The invention includes systems and methods for identifying and verifying the identity of a user of a kiosk using an external verification system. The kiosk receives customer input data that indicates the identity of the user of the kiosk. The kiosk generates an identification query that includes at least some customer input data. The kiosk transmits the identification query to an external verification system. The kiosk receives a verification response from the external verification system. The kiosk then processes the verification response to verify the identity of the user of the kiosk. These systems and methods advantageously provide identification and verification of the identity of a user of a kiosk. With sufficient identification and verification, financial institutions can comply with government regulations designed to reduce the opportunity for money laundering, terrorism, fraud, and identity theft while offering users of kiosks a wider range of financial services.

Abstract:

A system and a method for money sharing are provided. The system includes a processor configured to receive a deposit amount and assign an account value to a stored-value account. The stored-value account is stored in a storage device. The processor then dispenses two or more stored-value cards associated with the stored-value account. The stored-value cards can be distributed among two or more cardholders who may withdraw money from the stored-value account at a remote access unit configured to accept any of the distributed stored-value cards associated with the same account. Additional deposit amounts can be received into the stored-value account from a cardholder of any distributed stored-value cards associated with the same account. The remote access unit can be unattended. The cards can be ATM-enabled.

Abstract:

An apparatus is provided for scrubbing a substrate's edge. The apparatus comprises a stationary surface (i.e., a surface that does not rotate in a direction in which the substrate rotates) that is positioned so as to contact an edge (e.g., a circumferential edge, an edge portion of the substrate's major surface or a beveled surface of the substrate's edge) such that as the substrate rotates, a dragging force is generated between the stationary surface and the rotating substrate. In a preferred aspect the apparatus is adapted to support a substrate in a generally vertical orientation, and the stationary surface is positioned along a lower portion of the substrate's edge, such that fluid applied to the major surface of the substrate will flow onto, and thereby rinse, the stationary surface. Such a preferred configuration also may allow a substrate to be loaded and unloaded without needing to move the stationary surface. Preferably, when a substrate is loaded into the scrubbing apparatus, the substrate's edge will contact the stationary surface, and a separate step for positioning the stationary surface will not be needed.

Abstract:

Self-service methods for money remittance and kiosks are provided. An exemplary kiosk includes a video display, a card reader, a keypad, a money validation device, and a processor in communication with a database and a processing system across a network. A person can remit money to a recipient by simply presenting an access card to the card reader, entering a PIN on the keypad, and inserting cash into the money validation device. The database includes information associated with the identifier such as one or more established recipients and necessary information for remitting funds to each. The kiosk can receive a list of established recipients from the database and present the list to the person on the video display. After the person selects a recipient from the list, the kiosk can transmit to the processing system the recipient and the cash amount received by the money validation device.

Abstract:

An improved method and apparatus are disclosed for isolating product gas from compressor operating fluid. A portion of a piston rod directly exposed to the compressor's operating fluid (the oily portion of the piston rod) is atmospherically isolated from the remaining portion of the piston rod by providing the piston rod with a collar that separates the oily portion of the piston rod from the remainder of the piston rod. A first and a second flexible membrane are coupled to the collar to form a first isolation region, and a second isolation region; the first isolation region encases the oily portion of the piston rod and atmospherically isolates it from the second isolation region, and the second isolation region provides additional isolation from both the operating fluid and the ambient environment. A higher pressure is maintained along the backside of the piston that compresses the product gas than the pressure within the adjacent isolation region. Pairs of wipers with vents coupled therebetween additionally may be employed to further improve product gas isolation.
