Abstract:

A microsurgical instrument that includes a handle and a dissecting tip coupled to the handle is disclosed. The tip includes a blade having a generally elliptical three-dimensional geometry. The blade may include an edge having a first arc and an opposing second arc. When the instrument is used to form an intracorneal pocket for the implantation of an intracorneal optical lens, the curvature of the first arc allows the edge to dissect a first blind spot of the pocket, and the curvature of the second arc allows the edge to dissect a second blind spot of the pocket. The blade may also be formed with a first depression in its top surface and a second depression in its bottom surface. When the instrument is used to form an intracorneal pocket, the depressions reduce the drag on, and corresponding trauma to, stromal tissue.

A computer-implemented method is provided for selecting a recommended investment portfolio based in part on socially responsible considerations. A portfolio of securities is identified for potential inclusion in the recommended investment portfolio. Socially responsible investing (SRI) scores are provided for the identified securities, and the identified securities are ranked relative to each other based on their SRI scores in a computerized ranking engine. A processor receives an entry of initial weightings for each of the identified securities, or data by which initial weightings for each of the identified securities can be objectively calculated; the ranking of the identified securities based on their SRI scores; and an SRI multiplier algorithm that is correlated with the relative ranking. The initial weightings or the data are unadjusted by socially responsible considerations. Abstract:

A plurality of sensors and a controller are disposed in a marine seismic streamer. Each of the sensors comprises an enclosure having two opposing interior walls, first and second piezoelectric elements disposed on the opposing interior walls, a third piezoelectric element disposed on a flexible substrate within the enclosure between the opposing interior walls, a pressure signal output node and an acceleration signal output node disposed on the exterior surface of the enclosure. A combined pressure signal derived from the pressure signal output nodes of the plural sensors is coupled to a pressure signal input of the controller. A combined acceleration signal derived from the acceleration signal output nodes of the plural sensors is coupled to an acceleration signal input of the controller. The streamer may be towed, and the combined pressure and acceleration signals may be recorded in a computer-readable medium.

Abstract:

Seismic pressure and particle motion measurement can include simultaneously determining a first voltage signal and a second voltage signal from each one of a plurality of sensors located in a streamer using triple piezoelectric structures. The first voltage signal can represent pressure of a respective one of the plurality of sensors, and the second voltage signal can represent acceleration of a respective one of the plurality of sensors. Vertical components of the acceleration can be determined based on the simultaneous determination, and noise associated with the sensor can be reduced based on the first voltage signal, the second voltage signal, and the vertical components.
