Abstract:

A brake system for a ram air turbine (RAT) causes the RAT to slow or lock if the RAT achieves an over-speed condition with a centrifugal force operated trigger system that actuates a compression type brake pack to slow or lock the turbine hub.

Abstract:

A multiple schedule valve including a valve seat and a valve member movable with respect thereto. A lever in the form of a bell crank is connected to the valve member and is movable on a pivot. A first actuator is connected to the lever to pivot the same to thereby move the valve member relative to the seat. A second actuator is connected to the pivot and is operable to shift the pivot axis thereof.

Abstract:

A splined muff is provided for use with a ram air turbine (RAT). The splined muff includes a body formed of plastic material that acts as an insulator during a lightning strike. The body is formed to define an aperture and includes an interior facing spline for engagement with a complementary exterior facing spline; and an exterior facing spline for engagement with a complementary interior facing spline.

Abstract:

A ram air turbine includes a strut. The strut includes a turbine portion and an opposed vehicle connection portion. The ram air turbine also includes a turbine operatively connected to the turbine portion of the strut to rotate relative to the strut. A shaft is disposed within the strut. The strut includes a turbine end and a vehicle connection end. The turbine end is operatively connected to be driven by the turbine to rotate within the strut. The shaft includes a composite material that has a tuned performance for at least one of optimal critical speed, bending, torsional stiffnesses, and/or resonant frequencies over an operational speed envelope of the shaft.
