Abstract:

A temporary biocompatible stent and method for visceral anastomosis. The stent is provided with integral means for maintaining the structural stability of the stent while providing substantial flexibility. The method comprises fitting the luminal stumps of the viscus over either end of a stent of the invention, and joining the ends of each stump together. A short time after completion of the anastomosis, the stent dissolves and is absorbed safely into the body. The stent and method can be beneficially used in laparoscopic or more invasive traditional surgical procedures. The stent and method are particularly well suited for anastomosis of the bowel.

Abstract:

A surgical robotic helping hand system according to the present invention enables a surgeon to effectively operate within a patient's body cavities via surgical instruments manually manipulated outside such cavities by holding the various surgical instruments otherwise held by assistant surgeons during the minimally invasive surgical procedure. At least one of the robot-like surgical instrument holders may be specially configured to contain a laparoscopic instrument such that the laparoscope is contained within a sleeve shifter device and capable of being remote controlled for advancement or retraction of the laparoscope along an axis thereof. The robotic-like arms of the surgical instrument holders and laparoscopic instrument holder are attached to a surgical fixation device having a retractor panel that may be adapted to fit a standard Bookwalter retractor device.

Abstract:

A method of occluding a patient's organ tissue during a minimally invasive surgical procedure is disclosed. The method includes providing a laparoscopic surgical clamp; passing distal end of surgical clamp into an opening of patient's body cavity; probing patient's tissue by moving first set and second set of double jaws of the surgical clamp between opened and closed positions; selecting tissue appropriate for being occluded with surgical clamp and suturing; clamping tissue with surgical clamp; passing at least one elongated suture into patient's body cavity with laparoscopic grasper; threading suture through a plurality of fenestration on at least one of upper portions of double jaws; puncturing patient's tissue with suture; threading suture through fenestration of at least one of the lower portions of double jaws; and clipping each end of suture on upper and lower portions of double jaws for securing the patient's tissue in a compressed position.

Abstract:

An in line fluid pressure regulating and pressure relief device having a regulator body with an axial bore therethrough with an inlet chamber conectable to a source of fluid under pressure and an outlet chamber connect able to a device requiring fluid under substantially constant pressure. A fluid pressure regulator located in the regulator body maintains fluid pressure at the outlet chamber at a constant predetermined level. A bleed piston located in the axial bore between the inlet chamber and to the pressure regulating means loses contact with said pressure regulating piston when the pressurized fluid source is removed from the regulator or drops below a certain level relieving substantially all pressure in said exit chamber and any attached device passively rendering the device inoperable.

Abstract:

Virtual reality is provided by a mobile VR device. VR scenes are displayed by serving an application's image requests from a local cache of pre-rendered image frames. As the device user moves, image frames that match a VR scene viewed from a current pose (3D position and 3D orientation of the device translated to the virtual environment) are retrieved from the cache and displayed to the user as a VR scene. The cache may include a static cache including static image frames and a dynamic object cache including dynamic object image frames. The static cache may be indexed by the device current pose. The dynamic object cache may be indexed by the dynamic object's animation stage, orientation, and relative distance from the device user's current pose for a given time or movement-based trigger. Static image frames and dynamic object image frames may be composited, and displayed as a scene.

A cooling system for cooling a heat source includes a monolithic structure having a plurality of embedded cooling channels arranged in a multi-planar arrangement, the embedded cooling channels configured to carry a cooling fluid to a plurality of locations throughout the monolithic structure, the cooling fluid configured to absorb heat transferred from a heat source associated with the monolithic structure.
