Abstract:

A method and an apparatus is provided for producing branch metrics in a LogMAP turbo decoding operation. During a forward recursion of a trellis, a set of primary branch metrics is generated. The primary branch metrics are stored in receiver form in a relatively small memory cache module and corresponding secondary branch metrics are produced by negating the primary branch metrics. The primary branch metrics and the secondary branch metrics constitute all possible branch metrics for a given state in the trellis. During a backwards recursion of the trellis, the stored primary branch metrics are retrieved from the memory cache module and the secondary branch metrics are regenerated by negating the retrieved primary branch metrics.

Embodiments described herein include methods for improving the SINR, and therefore communication quality or rate, in the downlink of a cellular communication system. In an embodiment, the system is an orthogonal-frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) system. In an embodiment, a set of terminals is designated a coordinated-transmission group. The set of terminal is chosen such that the slot-allocations of the set are given special treatment to alleviate interference from other sectors or cells. All terminals within a coordination group generally use the same slot, but embodiments are not so limited.

Abstract:

A method and system for managing memory using Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request in a communication system is provided. The method includes storing a retransmitted burst in a memory. The retransmitted burst includes plurality of bits. One or more of memory address of the retransmitted burst and the information corresponding to the retransmitted burst is recorded in a location table. The location table records memory addresses and the information corresponding to a plurality of bursts stored in the memory. The method further includes determining one or more preceding bursts corresponding to the retransmitted burst stored in the memory using location table. Thereafter, a combined burst is generated using the retransmitted burst and one or more preceding burst, if one or more preceding bursts corresponding to the retransmitted burst are stored in the memory. The combined burst includes the plurality of bits.

Abstract:

Methods of managing storage of HARQ packets are disclosed. One method includes a wireless device receiving variable length HARQ packets. The wireless device performing an error check on each received variable length HARQ packet, and storing within HARQ memory the HARQ packets that fail the error check. Each failed HARQ packet is stored in the HARQ memory by dividing the HARQ packet into HARQ sub-packets, and storing each HARQ sub-packet. The storage locations and storage order of each of the HARQ sub-packets are recorded for future retrieval.

A method and system for managing change-over in radio functionality at a radio front-end in a Time Division Duplexing (TDD) system is provided. The method comprises storing one or more control commands. The one or more control commands may correspond to the change-over. A communication system is described in which a receiver allocated to a sector of a communication network receives signals via all antennas of the network regardless of the sector allocation of the antenna. Abstract:

A communication device within a GNSS group propagates GNSS assistance data to one or more other communication devices in the GNSS group utilizing direct device-to-device connections. The GNSS assistance data comprises ephemeris received from one or more GNSS satellites and/or predicted ephemeris. As a source device, the communication device generates, and/or acquires from other resources such as a remote location server, the predicted ephemeris. As a destination device, the communication device receives existing GNSS assistance data from a source device and/or other communication devices in the GNSS group. A GNSS position for the communication device and corresponding time information are used to refresh the received GNSS assistance data. In instances where the communication device further acts as a relay device, the refreshed GNSS assistance data is relayed to other communication devices over wired and/or wireless direct device-to-device connections utilizing appropriate communication technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth and/or Bluetooth low energy.
