Abstract:
A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for performing data write and data read operations on a tape storage medium. A dual head/tape actuator assembly, comprising two head/tape actuator assemblies, is implemented to perform data write and data read operations on a tape medium. Each of the head/tape actuator assemblies comprises a set of data writer elements and a set of data reader elements. During data write operations, the data writer elements on one head/tape actuator assembly are used to write data to a tape medium and the data reader elements on the other head/tape actuator assembly are used to read the data from the tape medium. During read operations, half of the data readers on one head/tape actuator assembly are used to read data from half of the written data tracks on the tape medium and half of the data readers on the other head/tape actuator assembly are used to read the other half of the written tracks.

Abstract:
A system provides tape having at least one longitudinal data track and a tape head operative to move along a single axis line lateral to the data track. The storage tape moves across the tape head. The tape head moves along the axis line such that a write element of the tape head intersects the data track and writes data to a section of the data track. A controller determines that the storage tape is skewed. In response to determining that the storage tape is skewed, the controller determines a position along the axis line and a time to move the tape head such that the read elements intersects the section of the data track. At the determined time, the tape head pauses writing of data and moves to the position along the axis line. The tape head reads the section of the data track to verify the written data.
Semi-Flexible Structure For Micro-Positioning A Write/Read Head
A first semi-flexible structure and a second semi-flexible structure may be generated. The first semi-flexible structure may be bonded to a first end of a write/read tape head. The second semi-flexible structure may be bonded to a second end of the write/read tape head. A voice coil motor may be activated.
Non-Interfering Micro-Positioning System Utilizing Piezoelectric Elements
Implementation of a non-interfering micro-positioning device, for a tape drive write/read head module assembly utilizing piezoelectric elements, by generating at least two flexure brackets. The at least two flexure brackets may include the piezoelectric elements. Affixing at least one flexure bracket to a first side of the write/read head module assembly. Affixing at least one other flexure bracket to a second side of the write/read head module assembly.

Abstract:
A determination is made whether read/write is enabled within the tape drive storage unit. In response to determining that read/write is enabled, a determination is made whether a temperature within the tape drive storage unit exceeds a threshold value. In response to determining that the temperature within the tape drive storage unit exceeds the threshold value, a determination is made of a direction of travel of a tape media within the tape drive storage unit. In response to determining that the direction of travel is a forward direction, a first cooling device is powered on. The first cooling device lowers the temperature of a first guide roller and the tape media coming off a first tape storage reel prior to the tape media passing by a read/write head within the tape drive storage unit.

Abstract:
A determination is made whether read/write is enabled within the tape drive storage unit. In response to determining that read/write is enabled, a determination is made whether an absolute value of a channel offset exceeds a threshold value. In response to determining that the absolute value of the channel offset exceeds a threshold value, a direction of travel of the tape media is determined. In response to determining that the direction of travel of the tape media is a forward direction, a determination is made whether the channel offset is positive. In response to determining that the channel offset is positive, a left cooling device within the tape drive storage unit is powered on. The left cooling device lowers the temperature of a left guide roller and the tape media coming off a left tape storage reel prior to the media passing by a read/write head.
