Abstract:

A public/private communication system is provided which includes a public communication device , a private communication device () and a radio accessory extension (RAE) coupled therebetween. The RAE () of the present invention provides audio and/or display capability which allows the public communication device to operate as a private communication accessory. Methods () provide for the configuration and prioritization of private and public calls through the three devices to ensure that private calls will take priority and public calls will be received on the public communication device and handled appropriately.

Abstract:

A radio deployment pack () includes a plurality of radios and deployable infrastructure package within a single package. The package is created by placing an order including the selection of frequency band of operation and either stand-alone mode infrastructure, to be used when all existing infrastructure is inoperable, or expanded infrastructure mode, to be used to extend coverage across remote region having gaps in coverage. The selection of infrastructure is preferably used to assign a battery option, the battery option being either a disposable battery or rechargeable battery. Abstract:

A method for adaptive conventional scanning in a two-way radio transceiver () includes initiating an unweighted scan behavior () from a scanning list and then determining if qualified activity is present on a scanned channel () for a predetermined number of scan cycles. Once qualified activity is detected, the scanned channel is then marked () as having high activity. The transceiver then switches () to a weighted scan behavior such that the marked channel will be checked at a higher periodic rate than an unmarked channel. Once qualified activity is detected on the marked channel for a predetermined number of cycles () the channel is unmarked () and the weighted nature of the scan is removed such that normal scanning activity is resumed (). The marking process increases the overall scanning rate enhancing the overall performance of the scan for all channels.

Abstract:

Upon a user's command, a communication device accesses a call list having a plurality identifiers and receives a user's selection of a talkgroup identifier from the call list. The communication device switches to a first channel associated with the selected talkgroup identifier to allow a call on the first channel. When the call ends, the communication device sets a first timer and monitors the first channel for voice activity, and if voice activity is detected, continues the call on the first channel. When the first timer expires and no voice activity is detected, the communication device sets a second timer and scans a home channel for voice activity; and if no voice activity is detected, the communication device continues to monitor the first channel until the second timer expires or voice activity is detected on the home channel, then it automatically switches to the home channel.

Applications are provided to communication devices provide flexible operation between default modes of operation and an expanded mode of operation in which both communication devices share capabilities.
