The cosmetic topical formulation of this invention is directed toward diminishing skin wrinkling, fine line, improving skin tone, and combinations thereof. Preferably, the topical formulation contains a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and advantageously includes a natural estrogen, e. g. , a true estrogen compound, such as 17-beta estradiol, or an estrogen-like steroid, (such as various phytoestrogens found in herbal preparations), as opposed to a synthetic estrogen. Other forms of the cosmetic topical formulation of this invention include combinations of synthetic estrogen and MMP inhibitor. Exemplary synthetic estrogens include, but are not limited to, ethinyl estradiol and clomiphine citrate. The cosmetic topical formulation is safe and effective diminishing wrinkling, and improving skin tone. Certain compositions of this invention are useful for minimizing photodamage to skin, while in other embodiments, the composition according to this invention is useful to prevent or minimize the adverse effects on skin induced by cigarette smoking.

Abstract:
Absorbent dressings, including highly-absorbent dressings having antimicrobial polymer attached thereto via non-siloxane bonds are disclosed. Bandages (i. e. wound dressing), sanitary napkins and the like are useful applications for the intrinsically bactericidal absorbent dressings whose method of manufacture and use are disclosed and claimed.

Abstract:
This invention relates to methods and compositions for materials having a non-leaching coating that has antimicrobial properties. The coating is applied to substrates such as gauze-type wound dressings. Covalent, non-leaching, non-hydrolyzable bonds are formed between the substrate and the polymer molecules that form the coating. A high concentration of anti-microbial groups on multi-length polymer chains and relatively long average chain lengths, contribute to an absorbent or superabsorbent surface with a high level antimicrobial effect.
Interactive System And Method For Collecting Data And Generating Reports Regarding Viewer Habits
The present invention relates to a system and method for collecting and transmitting data concerning the viewing habits of a viewer. The present invention instantaneously records the data concerning the viewing habits of the viewer while he or she watches programming on a television or streaming media on a conventional personal computer (PC) monitor.
Composition And Method For Minimizing Or Avoiding Adverse Effects Of Vesicants
David Lerner - Boca Raton FL, US Gregory Schultz - Gainesville FL, US
International Classification:
A61K031/56
US Classification:
514/171000
Abstract:
The invention pertains to compositions and methods to treat the adverse effects of mustard chemicals and other toxic compounds, such as chemical warfare agents, exposure to which normally induces vesicating type response in mammals. In a rodent eye model at fixed concentrations of such a vesicant, compositions comprising (a) a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and (b) a protease inhibitor, PI, such as a serine protease inhibitor, SPI, a significant reduction in morbidity is achieved with increased concentrations of the compositions of this invention, as compared with an MMPI inhibitor alone or vehicle alone. Furthermore, compositions comprising the MMPI, the SPI, and in addition, an anti-inflammatory compound, in a vehicle appropriate to the type of tissue damage to be protected against from vesicant exposure, achieves both reduction in total tissue damage and inflammation, as compared with anti-inflammatory composition alone. Chemicals having more than one property, such as MMPI and AIA properties, are also disclosed. Certain combinations disclosed are applied to treat injuries due to acids and bases.
The cosmetic topical formulation of this invention is directed toward diminishing skin wrinkling, fine line, improving skin tone, and combinations thereof. Preferably, the topical formulation contains a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and advantageously includes a natural estrogen, e.g., a true estrogen compound, such as 17-beta estradiol, or an estrogen-like steroid, (such as various phytoestrogens found in herbal preparations), as opposed to a synthetic estrogen.

Abstract:
Circuitry monitors a plurality of rotating shafts, and provides a corresponding plurality of binary output words each characterizing the angular position of an associated shaft. Synchro and Scott "T" per-shaft monitoring elements are sampled by common multiplexer-central processor units which provide derived shaft position and shaft rate information to an appropriate one of plural shaft position output processors. In accordance with varying aspects of the present invention, the output processors include a rate multiplier controlled by the computer generated shaft rate signal, and a counter presetable by the CPU generated position signal, and advanced (decremented) by the rate multiplier output.
An ultrahighlight fluorescent light mounting system for filming, particularly in color. A head carries the fluorescent tubes and a removable light shield while the ballast is positioned in a container remote from the head. The head is set upon and swivable about an upper post, which is rotatably connected to a lower post, which in turn is set upon and swivable about a swivel piece extending from a standard stand. The head, light shield, first post, second post, stand, and ballast can all be dissembled from one another and placed in carrying cases.

Scientists Detect Sewage Pollution With Glow-in-the-Dark Tampons
Professor David Lerner who led the research explained that over a million homes in Britain have their wastewater network connected incorrectly. Most wastewater travel to the surface water network, and ultimately gets discharged into a river instead of going to a treatment plan. It is very difficult According to NBC News, in the published paper, environmental engineers Dave Chandler and David Lerner reported that the technique really works. Lerner said that while fluorimeters can detect organic brighteners, they are costly. Environmental watchdogs have discovered tampons as a new tool to fight
