Abstract:

The cosmetic topical formulation of this invention is directed toward diminishing skin wrinkling, fine line, improving skin tone, and combinations thereof. Preferably, the topical formulation contains a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and advantageously includes a natural estrogen, e. g. , a true estrogen compound, such as 17-beta estradiol, or an estrogen-like steroid, (such as various phytoestrogens found in herbal preparations), as opposed to a synthetic estrogen. Other forms of the cosmetic topical formulation of this invention include combinations of synthetic estrogen and MMP inhibitor. Exemplary synthetic estrogens include, but are not limited to, ethinyl estradiol and clomiphine citrate. The cosmetic topical formulation is safe and effective diminishing wrinkling, and improving skin tone. Certain compositions of this invention are useful for minimizing photodamage to skin, while in other embodiments, the composition according to this invention is useful to prevent or minimize the adverse effects on skin induced by cigarette smoking.

Abstract:

This invention relates to methods and compositions for materials having a non-leaching coating that has antimicrobial properties. The coating is applied to substrates such as gauze-type wound dressings. Covalent, non-leaching, non-hydrolyzable bonds are formed between the substrate and the polymer molecules that form the coating. A high concentration of anti-microbial groups on multi-length polymer chains and relatively long average chain lengths, contribute to an absorbent or superabsorbent surface with a high level antimicrobial effect.

Abstract:

The invention pertains to compositions and methods to treat the adverse effects of mustard chemicals and other toxic compounds, such as chemical warfare agents, exposure to which normally induces vesicating type response in mammals. In a rodent eye model at fixed concentrations of such a vesicant, compositions comprising (a) a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and (b) a protease inhibitor, PI, such as a serine protease inhibitor, SPI, a significant reduction in morbidity is achieved with increased concentrations of the compositions of this invention, as compared with an MMPI inhibitor alone or vehicle alone. Furthermore, compositions comprising the MMPI, the SPI, and in addition, an anti-inflammatory compound, in a vehicle appropriate to the type of tissue damage to be protected against from vesicant exposure, achieves both reduction in total tissue damage and inflammation, as compared with anti-inflammatory composition alone. Chemicals having more than one property, such as MMPI and AIA properties, are also disclosed. Certain combinations disclosed are applied to treat injuries due to acids and bases.

Abstract:

An ultrahighlight fluorescent light mounting system for filming, particularly in color. A head carries the fluorescent tubes and a removable light shield while the ballast is positioned in a container remote from the head. The head is set upon and swivable about an upper post, which is rotatably connected to a lower post, which in turn is set upon and swivable about a swivel piece extending from a standard stand.
