Abstract:

The invention is a business method for calculating royalty owner rights—specifically, calculating a metric of use corresponding to an aspect of royalty owner interest in an aggregate multi-royalty owned electronic content. In one embodiment, a large number of users, on the Internet, download or otherwise have access to a large collection of popular music. Even though some percentage of these users may never reconnect to the Internet in such a way as to facilitate sending an actual use report of listening from the collection, nevertheless a statistically significant number of the users will provide subsequent reporting, and this is sufficient to allow a metric of actual use to be computed for use in a royalty owner rights distribution event.

Abstract:

A system, method and computer program product for managing power consumption in a system comprising at least two computing devices. The at least two computing devices are organized as part of active computing device group or a ready computing device group, the ready computing devices configured into various modes of readiness including a standby mode, a hibernating mode, and a power-off mode. A control device receives obtained sensed parameters indicative of the processing load at the group of active computing devices and determines a “Readiness” index value representing a state of system readiness which is a function of a transition time parameter representing a time for moving one or more computing devices from the second group of ready computing devices to the first group of active devices in response to a service level violation. To achieve maximum power saving and yet meet various performance targets, the ready computing devices are dynamically allocated from amongst three states: standby, hibernating or power-off, based on the current readiness index value.

Abstract:

A lightweight composite electrical wire having a fusible core encased or enclosed by a conductive wall. In embodiments the core is sodium, and the wall is aluminum. In another embodiment the wall is a curved bimetallic wall having a first wall component having a high CTE and a second wall component having a low CTE such that changes in temperature will generate stresses that tend to change the shape of the wall, wherein a break in a heated wire will cause retraction of the core. Transverse bulkheads separate the core longitudinally, precluding or mitigating any loss of core material in accident scenarios, and providing locations for cutting and connecting the conductor. The bulkheads may include indentations. A insulative outer layer is provided. A novel outer layer construction utilizes fusible materials to provide insulation in accident scenarios.

A system and method for testing a self configuring computer which includes a computer system. Sensors electrically communicating with respective electrical connectors in the computer system. The sensors detecting when the electrical connector has a change of status from a previous start up. The sensor indicating a state change when the connector has a change of status. The computer system electrically communicating with the sensor for detecting the sensor state. A system method and computer program product for managing readiness states of a plurality of computing devices. A programmed processor unit operates, upon receipt of a request, to either: provide one or more computing devices from an inactive pool to an active pool, or accept one or more active computing devices into the inactive pool. An Inactive Pool Manager proactively manages the inactive states of each computing device by: determining the desired number (and identities) of computing devices to be placed in each inactive state of readiness by solving a constraint optimization problem that describes a user-specified trade-off between expected readiness (estimated time to be able to activate computing devices when they are needed next) and conserving energy; generating a plan for changing the current set of inactive states to the desired set; and, executing the plan. Multiple alternative ways of quantifying the desired responsiveness to surges in demand are provided, and, in each case, the tradeoff between responsiveness and power savings is formulated as an objective function with constraints, and the desired number of devices in each inactive state emerges as the solution to a constraint optimization problem.
