Abstract:
A portable data collection device is provided for diagnostic image and data collection at a remote location. The device is implemented as an otoscope including a speculum and light source for illumination of the ear canal. A digital camera element collects the reflected images and provides the images to a processor. The processor processes the images using pattern matching techniques and displays and/or stores suitable images. The images are transferred to a base station for subsequent transmission to a remote server or computer, where an authorized party may access and examine the images. An authorization or prescription from the remote server or computer may be required to enable data collection and transmission by the otoscope.

Abstract:
A method of communicating medical sensing data including receiving, at a patient communication system, medical sensing data collected by a medical sensing device during a medical sensing procedure. The method also includes creating, with the patient communication system, a data message, the data message including at least a portion of the medical sensing data, information about the medical sensing procedure, and information about the medical sensing data and transmitting, with the patient communication system, the data message to a centralized computing device over a data network.

A distributed medical sensing system including a first body sensing device configured to sense medical characteristics, the first body sensing device being located in a first sterile field and a second body sensing device configured to sense medical characteristics, the second body sensing device being located in a second sterile field, the second sterile field being spaced from the first sterile field. The syJostem also includes a computing device outside of the first and second sterile fields and communicatively coupled to the first and second body sensing devices, the computing device configured to respectively receive first and second medical characteristic data from the first and second body sensing devices, process the first and second medical characteristic data, and transmit the processed first and second medical characteristic data to respective first and second user interface devices.

Abstract:
A prescription-controlled diagnostic data collection system for collecting, storing and receiving medical diagnostic data. A remote medical diagnostic device is configured to collect and transmit diagnostic data. A health service provider prepares a prescription that authorizes the remote diagnostic device to collect and/or transmit diagnostic data. The prescription includes an identifier unique to the device. A central server receives and stores the prescription from the prescribing party and stores status and data information associated with the prescription. A base unit transfer data and authorization information between the remote medical diagnostic device and the server. The remote diagnostic device is operable by a patient independently of the server and the health care provider to collect the diagnostic data, and is operable to transmit the diagnostic data to the server when appropriate authorizations have been received by the base unit from the server.
A snore-inhibiting device shaped and dimensioned for comfortable installation within the mouth of a user includes a pair of cooperating jaw pieces configured to cap the upper and lower teeth-and-gum structures. The jaw pieces are held together slightly ajar by their integrally molded rearward portions. The small gap between the jaw pieces is enlarged in the frontal area by a rectangular slot through which a tip portion of the tongue can be pushed. The jaw pieces are allowed to separate even more slightly under the pressure of the tongue then to resiliently close back and capture the tip of the tongue, thus keeping the tongue slightly forward from the teeth line. The upper and lower jaw pieces are asymmetrical in order to favor a stable positioning of the device against the lower jaw. The device is made from a thermal plastic having a low melting point so that it may be conformed to the user's dental structure after softening by immersion into boiling water.

Method For Focused Acoustic Computed Tomography (Fact)
A method for acoustic tomography within a patient may include generating a focused ultrasonic signal using a transducer is provided; the ultrasonic signal forming a path within the patient. The method includes directing the ultrasonic signal on a spot within the patient; scanning the spot in a predetermined pattern about a volume within the patient; receiving an ultrasonic echo in the transducer; converting the ultrasonic echo into a voltage; selecting a frequency band from the voltage; amplifying the voltage in the selected frequency band with a processing circuit; and generating an image of the volume within the patient structure utilizing the amplified voltage. A method for recanalization of a blood vessel including the above acoustic tomography steps is also provided.

Madoff says he provided 'key information' to authorities
the past year, as well as his latest message, Madoff has claimed that JPMorgan and other banks "had to know" about his fraud. He said he offered information about the bank to Picard and his chief counsel, David Sheehan, who this week accused Madoff of "aggrandizing himself" with claims of assistance.

New York Mets owners and Bernard Madoff lawyer call halt to legal battle
"Settlement terms are reached to create the maximum recovery for the BLMIS [Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities] Customer Fund, taking into consideration factors such as the vicissitudes of time-consuming litigation and the financial situation of the parties involved," David Sheehan, legal counse
Arguing on the trustee's behalf, attorney David Sheehan scoffed at attempts to portray the Mets owners as "unsophisticated run-of-the-mill guys" who had no reason to know Madoff was squandering about $20 billion on behalf of thousands of investors.
Irving Picard, the bankruptcy trustee, and David Sheehan, his lead counsel, have said the Madoff family should give any money they have because the Madoffs should have known about the scheme, they say. Picard is suing Andrew Madoff for $60 million, according to 60 Minutes.
Madoff's fraud, is delaying a planned Friday payout to those who lost money because of a judge's ruling that limits the amount Mets owners might have to return. Attorney David Sheehan said the ruling limiting the owners' exposure to $386 million will affect other money being recovered for investors.
