Abstract:

This invention relates in one aspect to a composition for inhibiting corrosion, such as flash rust, on metal surfaces. The composition described can include an organic acid component or a salt thereof, an azole component, an imidazoline component, a basic amine component, a phosphonate component, and a carrier including water and an alcohol such as glycol. The composition can also include surfactants, defoamers, buffers and other components as well. In another aspect, the invention relates to a method for treating metal surfaces to inhibit corrosion, comprising the steps of mixing, diluting and contacting or otherwise applying the above composition to the metal surface by spraying, dipping, coating or other effective means.

Abstract:

In general the current invention relates to corrosion inhibitors useful in water-based (aqueous) heat transfer fluids. More particularly, the present invention can be used for protecting ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces used in the construction of water-based (aqueous) heat transfer systems such as engine blocks and radiators. The invention particularly applies to a blend of corrosion inhibiting agents that can be added to water or water-glycol or other suitable liquid in a circulating or static heat transfer system to protect metal surfaces from corrosion attack. When used in an aqueous solution the unique blend of corrosion inhibiting agents provides flash corrosion protection of ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces during operation and after the treated aqueous fluid is drained away provides atmospheric corrosion protection of the ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces. The invention further relates to a variety of other practical and industrial applications such as engine coolant corrosion inhibition, dyno fluid corrosion inhibition, and metal working corrosion inhibition applications. The corrosion inhibitor includes several components 1) a dicarboxylic acid component comprising decanedoic and dodecanedoic and one or more C10-C12 dicarboxylic acids or salts of these acids, 2) an oxyalkylated carboxylate imidazoline preferably produced from carboxylate fatty acid and amine, 3) organophosphonic acid or amine salts of the organophosphonic acid and 4) a secondary or tertiary alkanolamine organic acid salting agent. The corrosion inhibitors of the present invention provide improved corrosion protection as compared to conventional inhibitors and provide surprisingly improved corrosion protection as compared to inhibitors containing only a single mono-carboxylic acid or blend of monocarboxylic and dicarboxylic acids or salts of these acids. The corrosion inhibitor of the present invention preferably contains no nitrite, nitrate, or silicate salts.

Abstract:

The formation of amine or glycol degradation products in solutions used to remove acid gases or water from hydrocarbon or inert streams is reduced by adding to the solution an oxygen scavenger in which the effective component is an oxime of the formula: ##STR1## Mixed with a quinone promotor in which R. sub. 1 and R. sub. 2 are the same or different and are selected from hydrogen or lower alkyl groups of one to six carbon atoms. The addition of the quinone promotor increases the reactivity with oxygen at lower temperatures. The compound may also be as a corrosion inhibitor in gas treating or processing equipment.

Abstract:

The composition of matter and application thereof in the present invention relates to the application of a synthetic hydrocarbon compound, a polyalphaolefin liquid, blended in various concentrations with chemical oil and water emulsifiers, thinners and oil and water surface tension reducers, the concentration of polyalphaolefin liquid to that of the remaining portion of the blend being no less than 5%; blending the polyalphaolefin liquid and the emulsifiers in a blending tank containing water base drilling mud; circulating the blend of polyalphaolefin liquid and emulsifier with the water base drilling mud down hole, so that the blend of polyalphaolefin liquid emulsifier and water base drilling mud lubricates the drill string or reduces the differential pressure between the wall of the borehole and the drill string so that the drill string is free to rotate and drilling may be undertaken with less drag or torque. In another application, the polyalphaolefin blended with the emulsifier serves as a spotting fluid in order to unstick drill pipe that has become stuck.
