Abstract:

The present invention is a process for converting a hydrocarbon feedstream by a catalytic reaction in a catalytic cracking process comprising contacting said feedstream with a demetallated molecular sieve catalyst prepared by first synthesizing the molecular sieve in a metal aluminosilicate form, wherein the metal is Fe, Ga, Zn, B, Cr, Ni or Co and mixtures thereof, removal of the template, if present, by calcination, extracting the metal, with partial extraction of Al, cation exchange to reduce the residual base cation level to less than 1% wt; and catalyst fabrication by mixing the exchanged molecular sieve, optionally adding a secondary promoter, with a binder and forming.

A zeolite of the L type is prepared by an approximately stoichiometric process wherein the zeolite is crystallized from a reaction mixture aged at from 80. degree. to 260. degree. C. containing specified ranges of molar ratios of KOH (and optionally a minor amount of NaOH), water, potassium silicate, and a source of alumina preferably derived from kaolin or halloysite. Most preferably, the source of alumina is metakaolin.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a highly selective catalytic cracking process for the conversion of feedstocks containing a predominant content of C. sub. 10 and higher mixed olefins into C. sub. 9 and lower olefin products at efficiencies of greater than 20%. said products further characterized in that the content C. sub. 6 to C. sub. 9 olefins is maximized while the content of C. sub. 2 to C. sub. 4 olefins is minimized. The process involves contacting an olefin feedstock mixture containing at least about 50 weight %, more preferably at least about 70 weight %, of C. sub. 10 and higher olefins under cracking conditions with a catalyst selected from the group consisting of amorphous precipitated silica, selected crystalline silicates and aluminosilicates, namely beta, mordenite and ZSM-5 types, as well as ion exchanged or acid variants thereof. Cracking conditions include a temperature within the range of from about 250. degree. up to about 450. degree. C.

Abstract:

Useful cracking catalysts and catalyst supports comprising silica supported on alumina are prepared by compositing particles of silica or silica precursor with particles of porous alumina and subjecting the resulting composite to high temperature steaming in a non-reducing environment at a temperature of at least about 500. degree. C. for a time sufficient to disperse at least a portion of the silica over the alumina surface. The silica wets, spreads out and reactions with the surface hydroxyul groups of the alumina. The supported silica on alumina composites that can be made from this process may exhibit properties of both bulk silica and bulk alumina at the same time, bulk silica and alumina whose exterior surface only has been modified with silica as wells as composites exhibiting surface properties different from both bulk silica and bulk alumina.
