Abstract:

An apparatus and method for self-tuning a piano that includes selectively applying voltage with a voltage mechanism to each piano string of a plurality of piano strings to provide either thermal expansion upon an application of voltage or thermal contraction with an absence of voltage to alter pitch of the piano string to a predetermined value, wherein each piano string of the plurality of piano strings has a first end portion and a second end portion, wherein the first end portion of each piano string of the plurality of piano strings is respectively secured to a housing by a plurality of first attachment mechanisms and the second end portion of each piano string of the plurality of piano strings is respectively secured to a housing by a plurality of second attachment mechanisms and the plurality of piano strings are electrically insulated from each other.

Abstract:

A very thin, laminated sheet material supplies evenly-distributed heat over its entire surface when an electrical voltage is applied to its opposite faces has an interior layer material sandwiched between outer layer materials. The sheet may be cut into any shape and produces an even heat with a constant watt-density over its entire surface at the same low voltage, regardless of size. The voltage may be applied at any point on the opposite faces of the material to produce the same effect.

Abstract:

A present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for tuning piano strings by heating the piano strings. The apparatus includes split magnetic cores that encircle the piano strings. The magnetic cores comprise wiring wrapped around the outside of the magnetic cores to induce an alternating current in the piano strings through mutual inductance. The generated alternating current in the piano strings allows each piano string to be heated and thereby tuned.
