Abstract:

A multi-node parallel processing system includes multiple nodes each including the capability to handle faults. When a fault is detected, a fault handling procedure is launched. This may include invoking a dump capture handler to stop execution of all applications as well as control the saving of dump information to slave dump databases. The node in which the fault occurred sends a broadcast message to all the other nodes to indicate the fault condition. In response to the message, each of the other nodes also captures predetermined dump information into slave dump databases. The system is then restarted. After the system has started up again, a master dump save routine is started on a master node. The master dump save routine then launches slave dump save routines in each of the nodes to coordinate the collection of dump information. The master dump save routine can query the information stored in each of the slave dump routines and select a subset of the information desired.

Abstract:

An intrauterine catheter device for monitoring fetal and/or maternal heart rate, including an elongate housing having proximal and distal portions, an array of ECG electrodes on the distal portion and one or more acoustic or other mechanical sensors on the distal portion. A pressure transducer may also be provided on the distal portion. Processor circuitry compares the ECG signal with the output signal of the acoustic sensor to derive fetal and/or maternal heart rate. An intrauterine catheter device is also provided, including a reference electrode on its distal portion, and an array of active electrodes spaced apart from one another on the distal portion. The device may also include a pressure transducer on the distal portion and processor circuitry coupled to the array of active electrodes and/or to the reference electrode for deriving fetal ECG from signals produced by the array of active electrodes. Alternatively, the array of electrodes and acoustic sensors may be provided on a flexible pad that may be secured to the abdomen of a pregnant mother. An intrauterine catheter device is also provided, including a plurality of lumens communicating with a differential pressure transducer provided on its distal portion, and having a zeroing switch on its proximal portion for resetting the pressure transducer in situ.

Abstract:

A system for encoding or scrambling an amplitude modulated signal, such as the video component of a standard television signal, and for subsequently decoding or unscrambling the signal so as to restore the original message content. Encoding is achieved by shifting the phase of the carrier component relative to the phase of the side-bands by an amount sufficient to significantly distort the modulation envelope. Decoding is achieved by summing the received signal with a corrective signal having a frequency, amplitude, and phase which effectively cancels the phase-shifted carrier component and substitutes therefor a carrier component of phase and amplitude which will render intelligible the modulation envelope.

Abstract:

An apparatus for signalling an accidental loss of blood from a patient's fluid infusion line includes a sensor assembly for connection to the line, the assembly having a housing for receiving a portion of the line within a side opening, a holder having a clamp member for drawing together portions of the housing on opposite sides of the side opening for fixing the portion of the line within the opening relative to the housing, a source of radiation directed through the opening for intersecting the line, and a radiation detector in the housing for receiving radiation that is transmitted from the source through the line. The apparatus further includes a battery powered circuit, the circuit intermittently powering the radiation source, and producing a reference voltage, a train of signal pulses forming a sensor signal that is indicative of the radiation received by the detector and, when the sensor signal is in a predetermined relationship with the reference signal, an alarm signal. The alarm signal is produced by an audio output transducer, a switch for powering the transducer being responsive to the signal pulses and enabled by a train of output enable pulses that are synchronized with the activation of the radiation source for producing a distinctive audio output.
