  • Abstract:
A method for executing database transactions is disclosed. A plurality of interconnected nodes are each defined in terms of processor and storage resources of a parallel computing system. A first set of virtual processors is mapped across a first subset of the nodes to create a first map with at least one virtual processor being mapped to each node in the first subset. A second set of virtual processors is mapped across a second subset of the nodes to create a second map with at least one virtual processor being mapped to each node in the second subset. The first map is stored as a first configuration and the second map is stored as a second configuration. At least one transaction is executed using the first set of virtual processors and simultaneously at least one transaction is executed using the second set of virtual processors.

  • US Classification:
    707101, 707100, 7071041
  • Abstract:
Implementations of a partitioned database system and a method of using a database system are disclosed. One system implementation includes storage facilities. Each storage facility includes data from database table rows. The database table rows in each storage facility that correspond to a specific database table are logically ordered according to a row identifier (row ID). The row ID includes a first value that is based on one or more columns of the table. The row ID also includes a second value that is based on one or more columns of the table, which may be different from or the same as those on which the first value is based. The first value of the row ID is predominate in determining the order of the rows in the storage facilities. The second value determines the order of those rows with identical first values.

  • International Classification:
    G06F 17/30
  • US Classification:
    707692, 707E17005
  • Abstract:
Techniques for processing operations on column partitions of a table in a database are provided. A table includes a control column partition. Each delete container of the control column partition representing multiple rows in the table (or a row partition, if any), and each row represented by a bit flag within a bit string. Rows of the table set for deletion have their corresponding bits within a particular delete container set to indicate those rows are deleted.
  • Optimization Of Sql Queries Using Hash Star Join Operations

    view source
  • US Patent:
    58648429, Jan 26, 1999
  • Filed:
    Oct 23, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/546858
  • Inventors:
Donald Raymond Pederson - La Palma CA
Olli Pekka Kostamaa - Santa Monica CA
  • Assignee:
    NCR Corporation - Dayton OH
  • International Classification:
    G06F 1730
  • US Classification:
    707 3
  • Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for optimizing SQL queries in a relational database management system uses hash star join operations. A hash star join operation is performed in place of the star join operation when the query includes the star join operation on a base table and the plurality of dimension tables. The base table is hash partitioned into a plurality of distinct and separate sub-portions thereof. Selecting and projecting rows from all of the dimension tables to separate temporary dimension tables. The query is split into a plurality of sub-queries, wherein each of the sub-queries comprises a hash star join operation on the temporary dimension tables and one or more of the distinct sub-portions of the base table. Each of the sub-queries are then performed independently of one another to create intermediate result tables. The intermediate result tables from each of the sub-queries are then merged together to create an output table.

    G06F 9/455
    G06F 9/48
    G06F 16/2455
    G06F 16/2453
  • Abstract:
A database system comprises a plurality of processing modules arranged to process data objects from a plurality of data object servers based upon a database query from a client computer system. A control task module is arranged to iteratively dynamically assign data objects from the plurality of data object servers to each of the plurality of processing modules based upon processing activity associated with the processing module during the database query from the client computer system. Alternatively, or in addition to, the control task module is arranged to iteratively dynamically assign data objects from the plurality of data object servers to each of the plurality of processing modules based upon a characteristic of the data objects to be dynamically assigned to the processing module during the database query from the client computer system.

  • Abstract:
A data-changing request is received on a first data source system. Metadata for a data source object associated with the request is obtained. The request is executed on a second data source system and results are obtained. A selection between multiple replication processes is made based on the metadata and the results. The selected process is performed on each of the remaining data source systems to synchronize/replicate data changes on the remaining data source systems. In an embodiment, bidirectional and concurrent data connections are permitted to a source object for one data source system and a replicated version of the source object on a different source system. In an embodiment, each data source system includes an agent that establishes an out-of-band connection to a synchronization/replication server, such that synchronization/replication is processed by the server without an affirmative connection being made from the data source systems to the server.
