  • US Patent:
    6404081, Jun 11, 2002
  • Filed:
    Aug 11, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/637291
  • Inventors:
Donald T. Staffiere - Amherst NH
  • Assignee:
    Energenius, Inc.
  • International Classification:
    H01H 3500
  • US Classification:
    307130, 307 66, 365229, 174255
  • Abstract:
A backup energy unit for an electrical device having a power source, an operational load, and containing a layered electrical device having a top exterior surface and a bottom exterior surface, such as an integrated chip or layered circuit board. The energy unit is made up of at least one energy storage device. This energy storage device is made up of a dielectric material and a first and a second electrical storage conducting layer. The dielectric material lies between the first and second electrical storage conducting layers. Further, the dielectric material exists between the top exterior surface and bottom exterior surface of the layered electrical device. The energy unit is further made up of a voltage detector to detect a potential level of the power source. When the voltage detector detects a power source disruption, that is when the potential level of the power source is below a first voltage state, it controls a switcher. This switcher disconnects the power source from the operational load and connects the energy storage device to the operational load when the voltage detector detects a power source disruption.

  • Assignee:
Custom Controls LLC - Carlisle MA
  • International Classification:
    F16K 51/00
  • US Classification:
    25112911, 251292
  • Abstract:
A sensor and powered valve actuator assembly adaptable to fit on and operate a manual valve, the sensor for detecting a valve operating trigger event such as a fluid leak, the actuator for automatically operating the manual valve in response to the triggering event. The assembly includes a motor, motor control circuit, operating shaft, and manual valve engaging member, in a housing mountable to a manual valve body. A sensor which may be remote to the housing is connected to the motor control circuit. When mounted, the valve engaging members extend from the shaft into flexible, rotational engagement with the manual valve shaft, such as with tines spanning or piercing the valve handle. The control circuit controls the motor based on a signal from the sensor, or other control means, such that the motor can actuate valve operation.

    B21K 1/20
  • US Classification:
    25112901, 29890124
  • Abstract:
An apparatus and method for automating the operation of a manual control valve upon the occurrence of a specified condition includes a valve handle engaging member mounted on an operating shaft turned by a motor held by a housing or support which is mountable to the manual valve body or associated conduit. The motor is operated by a motor control circuit when a sensor detects the condition. The structure and method of mounting may include a quick disconnect mechanism. The control circuit may operate at different power levels depending on the state of the sensor.

  • US Patent:
    50539205, Oct 1, 1991
  • Filed:
    Oct 9, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/595656
  • Inventors:
Donald T. Staffiere - Wilmington MA
Harvey S. Friedman - Sudbury MA
  • Assignee:
Digital Equipment Corporation - Maynard MA
  • International Classification:
    H05K 720
  • US Classification:
    361383
  • Abstract:
A three-dimensional integrated power distribution and regulation apparatus for providing regulated power to a plurality of chips mounted on a module. The apparatus has a busbar mounted on the module, this busbar receiving high voltage power as an input. A plurality of power regulators are mounted on the busbar and are electrically coupled to this busbar. The power regulators are point-of-load regulators that receive high voltage power as an input and produce regulated power to the busbar. The busbar is electrically coupled to the chips and provides the chips with the regulated power. Heat and losses are reduced since the power regulators are mounted on the module, close to the chips themselves.
