Abstract:

Provided herein are blocks useful in the construction of walls and other structures. The blocks include in their design features which render them to be interlocking, and which provide for a wall constructed from the blocks to include a plurality of horizontal and vertical channels that are adapted to receive reinforcing rods (ârebarâ). Once a two-dimensional network of rebar is disposed in the interior of such a wall constructed from blocks according to a preferred form of the invention, a castable concrete may be poured into the wall and caused to exist in the spaces between the rebar and the blocks of the invention. By such construction, a wall comprising concrete in its interior that is reinforced in two dimensions is provided, wherein reinforcement in the third dimension is provided by the interlocking feature of the tops and bottom portions of blocks in adjacent rows with one another.

Abstract:

A balcony or other metal railing assembly which can be readily prefabricated. This assembly includes a top rail and a lower rail, spaced from each other, between which extend vertically a plurality of parallel spaced pickets or spindles. The assembly may be mounted on vertical posts embedded in decking. The top and bottom rails are hollow and configured to receive the ends of the pickets and to snap-lock them in orifices in the top of the bottom rail, and in orifices in a locking cover plate which clips in to recessing in the underside of the top rail. While the bottom rails only extend between mounting posts, since the top rails may be clamped down, and thereby secured, onto the upper ends of the mounting posts, the top rails may extend over the posts without interruption. The bottom rails may also be snap-locked onto specially configured adapters laterally projecting from and secured to the posts. In addition, provision is made for suitable corner attachment of the mitered ends of abutting rails.

Abstract:

A railing assembly comprises: A. an upright post having rectangular cross section in horizontal planes, B. an elongated upper rail including an upper section having an upwardly convex generally semicircular cross section in a plane normal to the direction of elongation, said upper section opening downwardly and extending directly over the open top of said post, the post supporting the upper section, C. primary anchor means extending upwardly into the rail upper section and downwardly into the top of the post to anchor the rail to the post, and D. an elongated bottom closure section attached to the rail upper section to close said downward opening, said closure section extending endwise proximate the side of the post.
