Abstract:

A micro-optic polarization beam multiplexing system has collimating means for introducing a first pair of polarization-perpendicular input beams, collimating means for introducing a second pair of polarization-perpendicular input beams, a polarization beam combiner for combining the first pair and the second pair of input beams into a first combined light beam with wavelength and a second combined light beam with wavelength , and a filter for multiplexing the first combined light beam and the second combined light beam into an output beam with wavelengths and. The micro-optic system can also be used inversely for de-multiplexing an input beam with wavelength and wavelength into a first de-multiplexed light beam with wavelength and a de-multiplexed light beam with wavelength , and then splitting them into two pairs of polarization-perpendicular beams.

Abstract:

A SYN packet bandwidth Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack is defended against by intercepting and identifying SYN packets in a “DDoS gateway” advantageously positioned at the edge of the network to be protected (e. g. , one hop upstream from the protected link), and by queuing these intercepted SYN packets in a separate queue from other TCP packet queues. Edge per-flow queuing is employed to provide isolation among individual TCP connections sharing the link. A fair scheduling algorithm such as round robin scheduling is used to ensure that SYN packets (such as those generated as part of a SYN bandwidth attack) cannot overwhelm the egress link in the presence of other TCP packets.

Abstract:

A Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack by a TCP stateless hog is defeated with use of an enhancement to the keep-alive mechanism provided by RFC 1122. A TCP server receives a new TCP connection request from a possible attacker and sends a keep-alive probe packet back thereto using an “invalid” sequence number. Illustratively, this “invalid” sequence number comprises a random number selected to be reasonably distant from the actual current sequence number. When a responsive packet is received from the potential attacker, the TCP server verifies the accuracy of the acknowledgement number in the received packet, thereby determining whether the potential attacker may be a TCP stateless hog.

Abstract:

A system and method for transparent data replication of one or more data containers over migrating virtual servers (vfilers) operating on physical storage systems is provided. A mirroring (or other replication) procedure associated with a vfiler generates an entry in a mirror table maintained by one or more appropriate mirroring applications executing on the physical storage systems. The mirror table identifies source and destination “owners” of a replicated data container by vfiler instead of only by physical storage system. Thus, when a vfiler is migrated from a source physical storage system (“source”) to a destination physical storage system (“destination”), the mirroring application may continue to perform mirroring operations on the data containers at a per vfiler level to thereby improve the utility of migration of the vfiler among the storage systems.

Method for diagnosis of congenital lipoid adrenal hyperplasia and for the detection of the presence of a mutated gene for steroidogenesis acute regulatory protein (StAR) by analyzing nucleic acid obtained from a patient. Abstract:

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to novel activation functions which enable improved reproducibility and accuracy tradeoffs in neural networks. In particular, the present disclosure provides a family of activation functions that, on one hand, are smooth with continuous gradient and optionally monotonic but, on the other hand, also mimic the mathematical behavior of a Rectified Linear Unit (ReLU). As examples, the activation functions described herein include a smooth rectified linear unit function and also a leaky version of such function. In various implementations, the proposed functions can provide both a complete stop region and a constant positive gradient (e.g., that can be 1) pass region like a ReLU, thereby matching accuracy performance of a ReLU. Additional implementations include a leaky version and/or functions that feature different constant gradients in the pass region.
