Abstract:

A method and apparatus for reducing the emission of pollutants resulting from static test firings of rocket and jet engines. The apparatus comprises a test stand for capturing the exhaust gas from an engine undergoing a static test. The test stand includes a duct system for guiding the exhaust gas from a duct inlet to a duct outlet through stages that reduce the exhaust gas pollutants. Liquid oxygen (“LOX”) is introduced into the duct system to interact with the engine exhaust gas stream. By introducing LOX, the pollutant CO is converted to non-pollutant carbon dioxide (“CO”) as the exhaust stream moves through the duct system.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to an improved method and device for aiming and firing a rifle-mounted grenade launcher without having to approximate the range of a target and then manually adjust the position of subsequently fired grenades. The grenadier initiates the process by pointing the grenade launcher at the target. The range and azimuth of the target are determined by a microprocessor controlled laser range finder/digital compass combination. A ballistic solution is calculated by the microprocessor and the superelevation required to place the grenade on target is displayed on one of several video displays. The grenadier then uses the vertical angle measurement capability of the laser range finder/digital compass assembly to rotate the grenade launcher to the proper angle while maintaining the proper azimuth. The grenade is then fired on target. The present method and associated hardware may be used as one component of a fully integrated, multi-functional, soldier-centered, computer-enhanced warfare system.

Abstract:

Boresighting apparatus that includes a multispectral reflective collimator combined with an adjustable rhomboid reflector that allows boresighting of any wavelength sighting, pointing, aiming or rangefinding device disposed on a small arms weapon. The boresighting apparatus comprises a housing and a small arms weapon adapter for securing the housing to small arms weapons having different calibers. An illuminated or heated target is disposed in the housing for selectively providing an image of an illuminated or heated target pattern. A power source is coupled to the target for providing power to selectively illuminate or heat the target. An adjustment mechanism is provided for incrementally adjusting the optical location of the target and thus the location of the target pattern. A mirror, such as an off-axis parabolic mirror, is disposed to reflect the image of the illuminated or heated target pattern along a visual optical path. A beamsplitter is disposed along the visual optical path for transmitting visible and infrared radiation, and for reflecting laser radiation derived from a laser rangefinder disposed along a laser optical path toward the target.
