Abstract:

An umbrella with an integral anchoring structure is provided. The umbrella includes a post having a lower end for insertion into the ground, and an upper end for supporting an umbrella top. The umbrella includes an integral spiral shaped anchoring structure formed on the lower end of the post. The anchoring structure is formed with a width, W, greater than a diameter of the post and a length, L, which is adapted to stabilize a weight of the umbrella and secure the umbrella and the post in a variety of earthen conditions such as sand, lawn, and soil even in a prevailing breeze or stormier conditions. The umbrella further includes one or more retractable levers integrally attached along the post.

Abstract:

A combination clutch-brake is shown including a housing having an output shaft rotatably mounted therein. A first hub having a first friction disc with a friction lining thereon and connected thereto is slideably mounted on the output shaft and rotatable therewith. A single annular piston is slideably mounted in a cylinder formed in the housing with a bearing interposed between the annular piston and the first hub allowing the hub to rotate radially within the annular piston. An annular spring housing having an annular backing portion with a friction lining connected thereto is fixedly mounted within and carried by the housing axially with respect to the piston. The spring housing has a series of spaced springs mounted thereon in urging contact with the piston whereby the friction lining of the spring housing backing portion contacts the first friction disc for braking of the output shaft when there is no fluid pressure in the cylinder. A second hub for connection with an input shaft and having a second friction disc thereon is rotatably mounted within the housing and engageable with a friction lining on the first friction disc when fluid pressure is introduced into the cylinder to thereby withdraw the first friction disc from the friction lining of the annular backing of the spring housing thereby debraking and clutching in the output shaft.

Abstract:

An axially compact brake is disclosed according to the teachings of the present invention as being spring engaged and fluid released for rotationally controlling an electric motor shaft for driving a machine, robot, or other apparatus component. The brake includes a housing formed by an air-chamber housing portion and an annular plate. The air-chamber housing portion includes a friction interface disc and an axial cylindrical member for reciprocally receiving an annular piston to form a fluid pressure cylinder. The annular plate is secured to the cylindrical member and includes torque pins extending into the piston. Coil springs extend axially between the annular plate and the piston. The housing portion has a square outer perimeter defining mounting pads at its corners for sandwiching the housing between the apparatus component and the motor. The brake further includes an input hub having a hexagonal outer cross sectional surface for the slidable receipt of a friction disc capturable between the friction interface disc and the piston.

Abstract:

A two-speed clutch is shown according to the preferred embodiment of the teachings of the present invention for the selective rotational relation of an input shaft with a first or second sheeve unit having different diameters. The first sheeve unit is rotatably mounted to the input shaft. The second sheeve unit is mounted to a housing in turn rotatably mounted to the input shaft. The clutch includes a friction disc which is located between and frictionally interrelates with the first sheeve unit or the housing. The housing includes a single, reciprocally mounted piston for moving the friction disc. Utilizing a two-speed clutch of the present invention eliminates the requirement of two separate and complete drive units as in prior techniques. Furthermore, since the housing performs multiple functions, i. e. , rotatably mounts the second sheeve unit to the input, slidably mounts the piston, acts as the interface for the second sheeve unit with the friction disc, and other functions, the two-speed clutch of the present invention greatly reduces the number of parts and results in a simplicity of construction.

Abstract:

A secure or insecure communications channel for a secure communications system that carries sensitive user datagrams inside a proprietary or other undisclosed protocol so as to be able to encrypt the entire user datagram, including all header information so that if a malevolent entity were covertly or otherwise receiving said transmission they would be unable to determine the destination addresses of the user datagrams. Further the proprietary or undisclosed protocol is broken up into packets whose packet-to-packet boundaries are hidden so that malevolent entities will not be able to glean any information from the changes in traffic that occur during stimuli designed to provoke an expected response, thereby rendering said malevolent entities unable to determine what actual responses are occurring during real world events.
