  • Flexible Support And Carrier Assembly

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46259368, Dec 2, 1986
  • Filed:
    Jun 6, 1983
  • Appl. No.:
    6/501202
  • Inventors:
Edward L. Hadden - Mechanicsburg PA
  • Assignee:
Sine Products Company - Mt. Clemens MI
  • International Classification:
    F16M 1300
  • US Classification:
    248544
  • Abstract:
A flexible support and carrier assembly for supporting an associated accessory is shown having a plurality of sequentially arranged body-like segments, the segments being arranged with respect to each other for articulated motion as between adjacent segments, the plurality of sequentially arranged body-like segments define an elongated articulated structure having first and second ends, a spring operatively carried by the articulated structure resiliently resists while permitting articulated motion as between adjacent segments to occur in a first direction of articulation, the spring also resiliently urges the adjacent segments to experience articulated motion in a second direction of articulation opposite to the first direction, and guard portions carried at least by certain of the segments, the guard portions functioning to prevent the unintentional incursion of unrelated objects into spaces between the adjacent segments when experiencing articulation.
  • Leadless Package Retaining Frame

    view source
  • US Patent:
    39821595, Sep 21, 1976
  • Filed:
    Nov 11, 1974
  • Appl. No.:
    5/522925
  • Inventors:
Richard Kay Dennis - Etters PA
Edward Leal Hadden - Mechanicsburg PA
  • Assignee:
    E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
  • International Classification:
    H05K 104
  • US Classification:
    317101CC
  • Abstract:
A retaining frame for forming interconnections between contact pads on a flat leadless I. C. package and corresponding pads on a parallel mother board so that when the package is moved toward the mother board and into the frame, contacts in the frame are compressed and contact surfaces are biased toward and moved along the contact pads on the package and board to form positive wiped electrical connections.
  • Diminishing Arm Toggle Linkage

    view source
  • US Patent:
    45612820, Dec 31, 1985
  • Filed:
    Sep 28, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/655562
  • Inventors:
Edward L. Hadden - Mechanicsburg PA
  • International Classification:
    B21D 908
    B25B 712
  • US Classification:
    72410
  • Abstract:
A diminishing arm toggle linkage has the work site within the toggle geometry and thereby provides exponential force enhancement. In preferred embodiments the mode of operation shifts on demand from a light-load-pivoting mode to a heavy-load-rolling element mode thereby easing operation and reducing friction and wear so as to provide prolonged durability and continuing dimensional accuracy. When the toggle linkage is embodied in a crimping tool an optional anti-reversing ratchet assembly prevents the tool from opening during use until a crimp is completed.
  • Force Translating And Amplifying Linkage

    view source
  • US Patent:
    49342045, Jun 19, 1990
  • Filed:
    Jun 7, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/362799
  • Inventors:
Edward L. Hadden - Mechanicsburg PA
  • International Classification:
    F16H 2518
    B21D 908
    B26F 136
  • US Classification:
    74107
  • Abstract:
A new compact linkage for translating rotary input force to amplified linear output force includes two force applying members which move apart relatively during operation of the linkage. A strut is pivotally attached at one end to each of the force applying members; the struts extend towards each other with a space between their free ends. Each strut has a bearing surface at its free end. A cam-roll member is interposed between the bearing surfaces of the struts and includes cam surfaces in contact with the bearing surfaces. When the cam-roll member is rotated by a lever attached thereto, it translates the rotary input force from the lever into linear output force by a rolling action of the cam-roll member against the bearing surfaces of the pivoted struts. The linkage is markedly more efficient in force translation and transmission than pivoting toggle linkages typical of the prior art.
  • Transmission Cable Connector And Termination Method

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40059219, Feb 1, 1977
  • Filed:
    Feb 23, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/660180
  • Inventors:
Edward Leal Hadden - Mechanicsburg PA
Robert Franklin Evans - New Cumberland PA
  • Assignee:
    E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
  • International Classification:
    H01R 306
  • US Classification:
    339 14R
  • Abstract:
An electrical connector for a flat multi-conductor transmission cable includes a cable terminating face, a parapet having a plurality of V-shaped grooves and a scalloped top extending from the face, a bus strip engageable with the face, and a cover. Also, a method for terminating the cable includes severing an insulated sheath of the cable intermediate its end, sliding the severed insulated end along a length of the conductors to expose the shield and signal conductors, severing the signal conductors, folding the insulated end of the transmission cable back along its length over a bus strip, and engaging the shield conductors with the bus and the signal conductors with electrical terminals on the face of the connector.
  • Connector Block

    view source
  • US Patent:
    39933849, Nov 23, 1976
  • Filed:
    May 12, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/576450
  • Inventors:
Richard Kay Dennis - Etters PA
Edward Leal Hadden - Mechanicsburg PA
  • Assignee:
    E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
  • International Classification:
    H05K 112
  • US Classification:
    339 17CF
  • Abstract:
A connector block for forming interconnections between contact pads on a flat leadless IC package and corresponding pads on a parallel circuit board. The block carries a number of terminals each having a collapsible linkage such that when the package is moved toward the circuit board, collapse of the linkage is controlled by a guide surface and wiped pressure connections are formed between the terminals and pads on both the substrate and the circuit board.
