Abstract:

The present invention is a gas turbine engine system containing a compressor stage, a pulse detonation stage, and a turbine stage. During operation of the engine system, compressed flow from the compressor stage is directed to at least one off-axis pulse detonation tube in the pulse detonation stage. The off-axis pulse detonation tube detonates a mixture containing the compressed flow and a fuel to create a detonation wave, which is routed to an inlet portion of a reverse flow turbine. The exhaust flow from the reverse flow turbine is then directed away from the engine through ducting.

Abstract:

A system is provided for contaminant removal. The system includes an inlet for transmitting a contaminated solution and a reverse osmosis membrane having at least one flow modifier. The reverse osmosis membrane is configured to separate condensate and permeate from the contaminated solution. The system also includes a porous central tube for carrying the permeate and an outlet for the condensate. A method is also provided for removing contaminants from a solution.

Abstract:

A method is provided for making a reverse osmosis membrane comprising flow modifier structures on one or more of its surfaces. The surface modifier structures are disposed on the membrane surface using a direct-write technique. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of making a reverse osmosis membrane, the method comprising providing a first membrane layer having an active surface and disposing on the active surface one or more flow modifier structures suing a direct-write technique. In an alternate embodiment, the present invention provides a method for making a polyethersulfone membrane comprising surface structures created using a direct-write technique. In yet another embodiment, the present invention provides a method for making a membrane stack assembly comprising a membrane layer and a feed carrier layer wherein a direct-write technique is used to create surface structures (flow modifier structures) on each of the membrane layer and the feed carrier layer.

Abstract:

A system for reducing emissions in an engine is provided. The system includes a primary fuel tank having a primary fuel. The system also includes a secondary fuel tank having a secondary fuel. The system further includes a separator in fluid communication with the secondary fuel tank or the primary fuel tank or both the secondary fuel tank and the primary fuel tank, the engine and a hydrocarbon-selective catalytic reduction subsystem. The subsystem separator separates a less volatile portion of the secondary fuel or the primary fuel from a more volatile portion, said less volatile portion of the secondary fuel or the primary fuel in the separator is routed to the hydrocarbon-selective catalytic reduction subsystem and said more volatile portion of the secondary fuel or the primary fuel in the separator is routed to the engine.
