  • International Classification:
    E21D 2002
  • US Classification:
    405261
  • Abstract:
A mine roof anchor assembly usable with a quick-setting resin cartridge inserted into a mine roof opening is disclosed and includes a partially threaded elongated bolt having a first end, a mechanical anchor, such as a bail-type or mechanical expansion type, at a threaded end, and a mixing element, such as a coil, having an upper end attached to the bolt and positioned external of and surrounding a length along the bolt. The bolt receives a frangible hollow plastic sleeve which is positioned about the threaded portion and extends below the mechanical anchor toward the bolt head. A stopping element attaches to the bolt below the mechanical anchor toward the first end, whereby the frangible sleeve is sandwiched between the stopping element and the mechanical anchor. A shaft can also be coupled to the first end extending the length of the anchor assembly.

  • Filed:
    Aug 23, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/748971
  • Inventors:
Edward C. Hipkins - Coraopolis PA
  • International Classification:

  • US Classification:
    4052591
  • Abstract:
A washer insert is made preferably of plastic for use with a bearing plate and a mine roof bolt. The bearing plate includes an upper surface, lower surface and a hole passing therethrough. The roof bolt includes a shaft having a head attached to the shaft. The outer diameter of the head is greater than the outer diameter of the shaft. The washer insert includes a hollow first section having a first end and an inner diameter equal to or greater than the outer diameter of the roof bolt shaft and less than the outer diameter of the roof bolt head. A flange attaches to the first end of the first section extending outwardly from the first section and coaxial with the first section. The flange has an upper surface and a lower surface whereby the first section is adapted to be received within the bearing plate hole so that the upper surface of the flange abuts against the lower surface of the bearing plate, the bolt shaft passes through the first section and the flange is sandwiched between the bolt head and the bearing plate.
  • Anchor Bolt Assembly And Utilization

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40233731, May 17, 1977
  • Filed:
    Jun 14, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/695724
  • Inventors:
Edward C. Hipkins - Oakdale PA
  • Assignee:
Union Forge, Inc. - Noblestown PA
  • International Classification:
    E21D 2002
  • US Classification:
    61 45B
  • Abstract:
An anchor bolt assembly for strengthening mine roofs constructed of a cylindrical anchor member having a bolt threadably received in one end and a temporary thread advancing stop carried on the stem of the bolt which releases or gives only after a predetermined torque is applied to the bolt, relative to the anchor member, to permit the bolt to be finally drawn up against the face of the mine roof after the anchor member into which it is threaded has been solidly secured with an adhesive resin material within a predrilled bore hole in the mine roof. The stop provided on the bolt stem may be of a type which shears or strips from its position on the bolt stem when the bolt is threadably advanced into the anchor member with the application of a predetermined relative torque, or the stop may be in the form of a frusto-conical wedge secured to the bolt stem and having the narrow end of the wedge projecting into a large counterbore in the end of the anchor member so that the frusto-conical face of the wedge seats against the inside opening of the counterbore to act as a stop. In this latter-mentioned stop, the counterbored end of the anchor member is provided with a plurality of annularly spaced open end slots so that upon applying the predetermined torque to the bolt relative to the anchor member, the frusto-conical wedge is further forced into the counterbore causing the slotted end of the anchor member to radially expand and engage the sides of the bore hole as an additional anchor member.

    7/593116
  • Inventors:
Edward C. Hipkins - Oakdale PA
  • Assignee:
H & S Machine and Supply Co., Inc. - Oakdale PA
  • International Classification:
    E21D 2002
  • US Classification:
    4052595
  • Abstract:
A mine roof anchor assembly usable with a quick-setting resin cartridge inserted into a mine roof opening including an elongated bolt having a first end and a second end, the bolt being threaded for a portion of its length at the second end. A mechanical anchor is carried on the threaded portion of the bolt and extends along a longitudinal axis in a longitudinal direction. The anchor assembly further includes a resin mixer attached to the bolt extending below the mechanical anchor toward the first end. The resin mixer includes an open-ended hollow sleeve having flared ends integral with a tube-like section positioned therebetween. The sleeve also includes at least one outwardly extending integral fin extending in the longitudinal direction and having a maximum radial distance from the central longitudinal axis less than the mine roof opening radius. A frangible element may also be carried on the elongated bolt between the mechanical anchor and the resin mixer. A method of manufacturing a roof bolt assembly having a resin mixer is also disclosed.

  • International Classification:
    E21D 2002
  • US Classification:
    405261
  • Abstract:
The anchor bolt assembly is of the type used in mine roofs where the anchor bolt is assembled and positioned in a drill hole in a rock formation and in which quick-setting adhesives secure the assembly to the rock formation. The assembly includes an elongated reinforcing rod, an elongated bolt, and a coupling internally threaded at each end and connected to the rod and bolt. A cylindrical plug of aluminum is positioned within the bore of the coupling and frictionally engaged by the threads so as to permit the entire assembly to turn in a first position and to disengage from its frictional engagement to permit turning of only the elongated bolt in a second position.
