Abstract:

A system for enabling a user to exert control with bioelectrical impulses via an input from the user includes a first electromyogram interface, a computer display and a computer. The first electromyogram interface to the user is in communication with a first source of bioelectrical impulses from the user. The computer display is capable of displaying a cursor. The computer is in communication with the electromyogram interface and the computer display, and is programmed to sense a first input from the first electromyogram interface, change a first computer control attribute in response to a state change sensed in the first input, and generate a preselected cursor action in response to a change in the first computer control attribute.

Abstract:

A sensing apparatus and method allows a patient to control an object by asserting a motor unit action potential. An electromyogram sensor is configured to be placed at a selected location on the patient and to sense a motor unit action potential from the patient. The electromyogram sensor is also configured to generate an EMG signal representative of the motor unit action potential. A personal area network transmitting device that is responsive to the EMG signal is configured to generate a wireless signal that corresponds to the EMG signal. A personal area network receiving device is configured to receive the wireless signal and to convert the wireless signal into an electrical signal. A processor is configured to receive the electrical signal and to generate at least one control signal that has a value corresponding to a state of the electrical signal.

Abstract:

An apparatus for projecting images simulating the phenomenon of combustion on a display media is provided with a control means for quickly positioning, expanding, and diminishing the images. Light from a light source is passed through orange and grey translucent filter segments, a light dispersal means, and an animating means to project animated orange and grey light images upon the media, the orange light representing the flame component of combustion and the grey light representing the smoke component. The control means comprises a transparent tray situated between the dispersal means and the display media which is overlaid with opaque or translucent particulate material which may be cleared by the finger of an operator or the like from a small area at a selected position on the tray surface to project an image at a corresponding position on the media, the dimensions of the projected image corresponding to the dimensions of the cleared area.
