Disclosed is a method for forming an antiwear film on an internal engine component comprising: contacting a surface of an internal wearing component of the engine with a tetra-functional hydrolyzable silane compound of the general formula Si—Xor hydrolysis product thereof, wherein X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acyloxy, amino, monoalkyl amino and dialkyl amino; and hydrolyzing and condensing the tetra-functional silane to thereby form a film. Also disclosed are mixed silane films and the products produced by these methods.
Disclosed are lubricating oil compositions comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a tetra-functional hydrolyzable silane compound of the general formula Si—Xor hydrolysis product thereof, wherein X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acyloxy, amino, monoalkyl amino and dialkyl amino.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a crankcase lubricating oil composition for protection of silver bearings in locomotive diesel engines comprising (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, and (B) a silver wear protection additive composition, and (C) one or more detergents. The silver wear protection additive composition of the present invention comprises a mixture of (i) a hydrocarbylamine salt of a di-alkyl di-thiophosphoric acid and (ii) a hydrocarbylamine salt of an alkyl acid phosphate.
A lubricating oil composition is disclosed which comprises (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, and (b) an oil-soluble tetra-functional hydrolyzable silane compound of the general formula Si—Xor a hydrolysis product thereof, wherein each X is independently a hydroxyl-containing group, hydrocarbyloxy-containing group, acyloxy-containing group, amino-containing group, monoalkyl amino-containing group or a dialkyl amino-containing group, and further wherein the lubricating oil composition is free of any zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate.
A lubricating oil composition is disclosed which comprises (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) an oil-soluble titanium compound of Formula I:wherein R, R, Rand Rare independently a C-Calkoxy group, and further wherein the lubricating oil composition is free of any zinc dialkyldithiophosphate.
A lubricating oil composition comprising (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) an ashless dispersant, (c) at least one metal-containing detergent, (d) an antioxidant, and (e) an anti-wear agent, wherein the lubricating oil composition is free of any zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound and is substantially free of any phosphorus content is disclosed.
