  • Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
  • International Classification:
    H04B 700
  • US Classification:
    455522, 455 69
  • Abstract:
The present invention is a user equipment (UE) which receives a communication signal over a physical reference channel using a reference channel receiver. An expected path loss is calculated using a path loss calculation device in response to the received communication signal. A signaling receiver receives an allocation of an uplink control channel including the amount of interference in the channel. Then, a power level calculation device, responsive to the path loss calculation device and the signaling receiver, determines an uplink power level based on the path loss and the interference level, whereby an uplink control channel transmission is initiated having the power level determined by the power level calculation device.

The data packet is modified prior to transmission such that the data packet has a preamble wherein data in the preamble has a second processing gain higher than the first processing gain for reception at a second power level lower than the first power level or higher. The user equipment unit transmits the modified data packet over the random access channel at a power level such that the modified data packet is initially received at the base station at least the second power level. The transmission power level is adaptively controlled while the preamble data is transmitted such that the base station. receives the data of the data packet having the first processing gain at least the first power level.

    Dec 20, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/327303
  • Inventors:
    Eldad Zeira - Huntington NY
Frank LaSita - East Setauket NY
  • Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 734
  • US Classification:
    370241, 370328, 370342, 455423
  • Abstract:
A wireless code division multiple access communication system is modeled. A plurality of snapshots is provided. Each snapshot has a plurality of user equipments (UEs) and base stations. The locations of the UEs in a snapshot vary between the snapshots. For each snapshot, the UEs are assigned to base stations. Resources are sequentially assigned to each UE or groups of UEs and a transmission power level for each UE is determined. For each sequential assignment, an updated transmission power level for any previously assigned UEs is determined. Dropped, served and not admitted (blocked) UEs in the snapshot are determined. Statistics on the performance of the system are gathered using the determined dropped, served and blocked UEs.

  • International Classification:
    H04B 7216
  • US Classification:
    370320, 370335, 370342, 370441, 455452
  • Abstract:
A physical channel of a user service is provided for assignment to a set of time slots in a hybrid time division multiple access/code division multiple access wireless communication system. A measure of interference is determined for each of the set of time slots. A fragmentation parameter is provided. The fragmentation parameter represents a preference for fragmenting user service physical channels over time slots. The user service physical channel is assigned to one of the set of time slots using the measured interference associated with each of the set of time slots and the fragmentation parameter.

    455522, 455 6713, 455 69, 455561
  • Abstract:
The present invention is a base station which receives a communication signal over an uplink common control channel and measures interference on the uplink common control channel in response to the received signal. A channel quality measuring device included in the base station monitors the channel quality of the uplink common control channel and provides a quality margin for the communication signal. A spreading device, then, transmits the quality margin over a downlink control channel in response to the quality margin.
  • Selecting An Order For Physical Channel Assignment In A Hybrid Time Division Multiple Access/Code Division Multiple Access Communication System

  • Abstract:
An order for physical channel reassignment is to be selected in a hybrid time division multiple access/code division multiple access wireless communication system. A fragmentation gauge is determined for each of a set of the physical channels. For each physical channel, the fragmentation gauge represents a fragmentation over time slots of that physical channel with respect to other physical channels of a user service of that physical channel. An order is selected for the set of physical channels for reassignment from a lowest to a highest quality. The order is based on in part each individual channels fragmentation gauge.

    H04B 7216
  • US Classification:
    370335, 370310, 370441, 375130
  • Abstract:
A user equipment (UE) for a wireless time division duplex communication system which uses code division multiple access. The system communicates using communication bunts that have unique channelization codes and corresponding midamble codes where each midamble code is uniquely related to one or more channelization codes. The UE has a midamble detector which detects each midamble code in a received communication burst. A logic block determines the channelization codes related to each detected midamble and a channelization code detector detects channelization codes from among channelization codes determined by the logic block. A multiuser detection device recovers data from the received communication burst based on the detected channelization codes. Where all midamble codes are uniquely related to one channelization code, the channelization code detector is not needed.
