Abstract:
Compositions and processes for preparing extrudable powder blends containing at least one vinyl chloride resin and a cellulosic material are provided. More specifically, compositions and processes for preparing extrudable free-flowing powder blends containing PVC and wood flour (WF) are also provided for preparing foamed or nonfoamed extrudates. The processes provided herein incorporate components which may contain up to a total of 25 weight percent water. Processes for preparing foamed extrudates are also provided wherein a cooling fluid is used to increase the expansion ratio of the foam. Finally provided are composites having an extrudable thermoplastic substrate and at least one capstock layer disposed thereon containing a PVC/WF composition.

Abstract:
Aqueous-form additive systems, and methods of blending the same with a matrix resin, are disclosed whereby acrylic-based impact modifier compositions, butadiene-based impact modifier compositions and acrylic-based processing aids are used in aqueous form without the need for isolation to the traditional powder-form. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention provide a means for the design of novel additive compositions. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention also provide a great degree of flexibility in preparation of matrix resin blends and formulations. Additionally, the aqueous additive systems of the present invention allow for the reduced cost of manufacturing additives and reduced cost in blending matrix resin formulations.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a tampon applicator assembly having an applicator barrel with an insertion tip with a maximum of three petals. Additionally, the tampon applicator assembly can be provided with a tapered insertion tip. A shaped pledget can be housed in the applicator barrel, which provides support to the petals.
Tampon Insertion Device For Improved Control And Pledget Placement

Abstract:
There is provided a tampon applicator assembly having a barrel with an improved fingergrip. The improved fingergrip has one or more flared portions and/or one or more rib-like or ring-like gripping structures. As a result of these features, the tampon assembly provides a user with improved control, which results in proper pledget placement and thus comfort to the user.

Tampon Pledget For Increased Bypass Leakage Protection
- Chesterfield MO, US Robert Jorgensen - Middletown DE, US Eugene Dougherty - Newark DE, US Yinka Abdul - Newark DE, US
International Classification:
A61F 13/20
Abstract:
The present invention provides a tampon pledget with one or more of the following properties: increased absorbency rate; high absorbent capacity and fluid retention; rapid expansion potential; and ease of ejection of the pledget from the applicator. Surprisingly, the one or more properties are achieved by using a modified dual cross-pad, folded, compressed tampon pledget design.
Tampon Pledget With Improved By-Pass Leakage Protection
- Chesterfield MO, US Keith J. Edgett - Middletown DE, US Eugene P. Dougherty - Camden-Wyoming DE, US
International Classification:
A61F 13/20 A61F 13/26 A61F 13/34
Abstract:
A tampon has two pledgets or one pledget with an absorbent layer and a leak shield located therebetween. The pledgets or pledget with the absorbent layer and the leak shield are folded such that the leak shield covers a portion of the surface of at least one of the pledgets. Both pledgets or the one pledget with the absorbent layer have absorbencies that are each greater than an absorbency of the leak shield. In another embodiment of the tampon, the leak shield comprises a fluid impervious or fluid repellent material(s). In another embodiment of the tampon, the leak shield comprises of an absorbent or hydrophilic material. Yet in another embodiment, the leak shield comprises of multiple layers of materials that are hydrophilic, hydrophobic, or a combination thereof. A method of fabricating a tampon includes forming a pledget, combining a fluid-impervious polymer material with an absorbent material to define a polymer laminate, ramming the pledget and the laminate into an oven tube, and stitching the laminate to the pledget.
